GUARD, EUGENE, ; OREGON Church Council Meeting An event of Interest on the week's calendar is that of the first fall meeting of the Eu gene Council of Church Wo men Wednesday, beginning at ten o'clock at the First Method ist church. Mrs. Ansel Hyland will preside as acting president. Special honor will be paid to the wives of Eugene ministers at this meeting. Invitations have been sent to the follow ing women for the affair: Mrs. Vance H. Webster, Mrs. Nor man K. Tully, Mrs. S. E. Chlld ers, Mrs. Gerald Roush, Mrs. Ingward Olsen, Mrs. E. S. Bartlam, Mrs. Williston Wirt, Mrs. V. T. Speece, Mrs. J. M. Shelley, Mrs. W. B. Maier, Mrs. E. J. Fulton, Mrs. B. Earle Parker, Mrs. Carl Dueill, Mrs. Edwin Johnson, Mrs. Herman L. G. Included on the program will be two book reviews, one on "A Christian Imperative" by Roswell Barnes and reviewed by Mrs. Robert Hall, and the ' second on "Christian Roots of Democracy in America" by Ar thur E. Holt and reviewed by Mrs. Victor P. Morris. Laurie Pratt and Mrs. Florence Mur dock will sing, and Miss Helen Staples will give a report on "Orphan Missions." A light luncheon is to be served at noon and a program will be presented during the afternoon. Mrs. Paul B. Means, wife of the new professor of religion on the University of Oregon campus,' will give the inspirational address. Mrs. Means has spent a number of years in both Sumatra and in Germany and has a wealth of experiences on which to base her talk. The program committee in cludes: Mrs. J. D. Patton, chairman; Mrs. D. R". Troutt, Mrs. Ella Day, Mrs. Frank Gordinier, and Mrs. Anna M. Larcom. THE NEWLY organized book review group in the Women's City club is to meet Monday evening at seven-thirty o'clock at the home of Mrs. A. F. Hol mer, Mrs. R. G.
