Nine members were present. Each contributed selections from original writings for the program. One of the guests, Mrs. Frank Hoover, gave a re port of the summer school for writers she attended in Port land. Mrs. Paul J. Cauthorn read a chapter which she had completed for the book which the club is writing. Mrs. Jess Hayden reviewed one of the radio scripts which she wrote for KORE and KOAC in co operation with the Oregon Trail pageant. Following the pro gram the group retired to the outdoor living room where re freshments were served. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Ida Adams, Springfield, the first Wednesday in August. RED CROSS sewing group of the Methodist church will not meet Monday. The regular meeting will be held Monday, July 21. WOMEN'S COUNCIL of the First Christian church will hold its regular all day meeting Wednesday at the church, be ginning at ten o'clock. Lunch eon will be served at noon. UNITARIAN Women's Al liance will meet Thursday noon with Mrs. R. C. Crow, south Willamette street, for a twelve thirty potluck dinner. Junior American Auxiliary Plans Convention MANY interesting gatherings will fea ture the annual convention of the state American Legion auxiliary to be held in Eugene, July 20-23 in conjunction with the Legion meeting. Ses sions for the auxiliary con vention will be held in the First Methodist church. Events Listed On Sunday evening of the convention, July 20, the auxil iary's memorial service will be held In conjunction with that of the Legion. Among events planned for Monday of that week will be the' banquet for presidents and past presidents at the Osburn hotel at six-thirty o'clock, the banquet of the Eight and Forty social also to be at the Osburn that evening. On Tuesday morning, July 22, will be held the secretaries and treasurers breakfast at seven o'clock at the Osburn hotel. Tuesday afternoon brings tours for visitors, starting at three-thirty o'clock, and in cluding visits to Chase Gardens and the Murray Warner mus eum at the University of Ore gon. Tuesday evening features the big convention parade and drum corps competition. The auxiliary's annual stunt night will follow and will be held at the Rex theater. On Wednesday morning, at the Eugene hotel, will be the past district presidents break fast, the Cottage Grove auxil iary in charge. 40th Anniversary Observed By Aid The fortieth anniversary of Bethesda Danebo Lutheran Ladies' Aid was celebrated at the Aid meeting Thursday af ternoon. The group, organized July 10, 1901, now numbers 88 active members and 13 retired members. Charter members present were Mrs. L. Berntzen, and Mrs. Gertrude Mickelsen. Other living charter members are Mrs, Marie Johansen, Eu gene and Mrs. Anna Jensen, Santa Fe, Cal. ' Rev. Ingward Olsen spoke on "The Meaning and Purpose of the Ladies' Aid." Mrs. Olsen gave a report of the Women's Missionary society convention, held in June at Cedar Falls, Iowa, to which she was a dele gate. Evelyn Berntzen, grand daughter of a charter member, Mrs. L. Berntzen, gave a vocal solo. Mrs. Hans Nielsen and Mrs. Andrew Larsen were hostesses for the afternoon. This was the last Ladies' Aid meeting to be held in the old church. The August meeting will be a picnic and silver tea to raise funds for the new church kit chen. INDEPENDENT Mission Study group of the First Chris tian church met at the church Thursday with twenty-two members present. Mrs. Jessie Palmer lead the study. On the program was a vocal solo by Mrs. Leo Guay, accompanied by Mrs. Roy Myers. The next meeting will be a picnic Aug ust 14 at the C. H. Jessee farm, In Central. Members will meet at the church at eleven o'clock. Mrs. Roy Myers Is In charge of transportation. Some out of town groups have also been in vited. Mrs. Vershel McCauley will be the leader. Corsages were also given to all the new officers. Mr. George Zebley, repre senting Spencer Butte I. O. O. F. lodge, invited the club to join them in arranging a float for the pageant. Katherine Kingman, Beverly Bertelson, Dorothy DeRoss, Norma Lee Christianson, and Alice Fenner were appointed as the float committee. Members of the Corvallls and Cottage Grove Theta Rho clubs attended the meeting. Miss Ellamay Small received the past president's jewel. A drill was given by the club, and refreshments served in the din ing room. IOWA CLUB will meet for a picnic in Skinner Butte park, Sunday, July 20, at twelve thirty o'clock. Federation Event Is Friday fTHE coming Oregon 1 Trail pageant in Eu Bene featured the program and activities at the quarterly meeting of the Lane County Federa tion of Women's Clubs Fri day, at Creswell, members of the Creswell Civic Im- Erovement club being the ostesses. One hundred and thirty-seven women, represent ing twenty-four clubs, at tended the gathering. Stories Read Old-time sonffa wcta xnncf and four stories, collected by the federation pioneer com mittee, were read. One of these stories told of the early courts in Eugene, another told of the organization of the Fortnightly club in Eugene, a third gave the history of Creswell, and the fourth discussed a memorial established because of an old feud that started over a line fence. Mrs. Wilson, visitor in Cres well from Washington, D. C, discussed Chinese relief. Other reports were given, In cluding a legislative one by Mrs. Ralph C. Crow, an art re port by Mrs. George P. Win chell and Mrs. Ella Lombard,' as well as reports on the Doernbecher hospital, and other activities. Next meeting of the federa tion comes October 10 at Spring field with the Springfield Wo men's Civic club as hostess group. LOYAL FRIENDS class of the First Christian church will hold an overnight picnic at the Clark creek organization camp, July 19 '0. Breakfast will be prepared by the men and fur nished by the class. There will be a potluck dinner, the class furnishing the meat. Alfred Cromwell will teach the Bible class in the morning and Dean Victor Morris will give the morning sermon. Mrs. Ralph A. Hope reported on the meeting at which she represented the club when J. L. Franzen discussed the city management form of govern ment.. Mrs. L. F. Bonson gave re port on the Girls State, sum mer camp at which she was one of the chaperons. Because of the pageant, the club will not meet again until August 1.
