The municipal band will be at the stadium Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights to play several numbers before and during the games, Mr. Fisher an nounced. Arrangements have been made with the University ot Oregon physlcial education officials for the use of the swimming pool and shower facilities in the men's gym by the soldiers during the week. It is planned to have the pool ready each afternoon soon after the units arrive and to limit use of the pool to from ten to 20 minutes for each group of men. Showers at the civic stadium will be made available for the officers, according to Dr. J. T. Cramer, speaking for the school board. Tentative plans have been made to admit the soldiers either free of charge or at a small nominal rate to the local theaters during the week, and the committee is also working on plans to hold the regular Thursday night wrestling matches at the civic stadium in stead of the fairgrounds. Mrs. C. F. Gray of the Military Service Mothers' club has been contacted in regard to hospitality for the soldiers and has pledged the support of her group. Further announcements will be made by the recreation committee following the arrival here Thurs day afternoon of a "rail head" group of officers and men to make plans for the visit of the soldiers here, TROOPS MOVE SOON FORT LEWIS, July 1. M A great northward trek of 40,000 officers and men of the 9th army corps, weary from six weeks of war maneuvers in central Califor nia, started today with the sched uled departure of six troop trains from King City, Calif. Exact departure time of the troop trains were not disclosed by transportation officers at Fort Lewis but their arrival time was given as Thursday morning, from 5:30 to 9:30 a. m. Motor convoys will start north tomorrow morning, bivouacing at Modesto, Calif., the first night. The convoys will not begin arriving at Fort Lewis until July 7. The seated chorus, which in cludes members of the Eugene Gleemen and the Women's choral group, will sing two numbers alone, "Oregon, My Oregon" dur ing the coronation prelude, and "Hail Mighty Chief" during the Declaration of Indepen dence scene. Solo work in the pageant this year will be limited to the tra ditional J'Pale Moon" solo by Sacajawea in the Lewis and Clark scene, Tschaikowsky's "Pil grim's Song" in the creation epi sode, and "OhS usannah" by a small boy in the pioneer episode mormons sing The Mormons will give a "re peat" performance of their hvmn "Come, Come Ye Saints" in the pioneer episode and a group of men will sing two French-Cana dian songs "En Roulant" and "Tenaoeuch Tenaga" in the Fort Vancouver scene. Two smaller men s choruses, a women's chorus and a group of Eugene high shool members of the a cappella choir will also be featured. The students are to sing "Ballad for Americans" in the melting pot scene, while the women will sing "Prayer" in ac companiment to the Indian cere monial "dance for clear weather" in the Indian episode. One of the men s horuses Is to sing "Blow Boys Blow" in the Ship Columbia scene while the second group will sing "Auld Lang Syne." "Bonnie Dundee" and "Bendemeer's Stream' in the rort Vancouver scene. While a few numbers familiar to pageant audiences have been omitted in this year's program, there will actually be more sing ing ior tne cnorus and small groups than in any previous pag eant, Mr. Griffith declared, and many new songs will be intro duced to carry out the "freedom" theme. (Sne- :ial) Shields and Shields, gen eral contractors, are ahead of schedule on construction of the new high school building here, Dr. W. N. Dow, chairman of the board of directors of the school, said Tuesday. A picket, carrying a banner which says Shields and Shields is unfair, was Installed about three weeks ago by the Eugene Building Trades council, but work is going on as usual Dr. Dow said, in spite of the fact that soma of the contract work is let to firms which hire union labor. Lassen Several members of the Osbisian club are planning a Fourth of July ski trip to Mt. Lassen, it was re ported Monday. Although it seems a little out season for skiing. Obsidians have received information on the Cali fornia ski area, indicating that there is excellent skiing there at tne present time. Last week-end at the Mt. Lassen area the annual mid-summer ski meet was held with top-ranking siats stars from ail over tne na tion. Mt. Lassen Is anoroximately 380 mlies from Eugene. Information on the trio is available at Obsid ian headquarters in Hendershotts. John Moeller, War Veteran, Dies Tuesday John C. Moeller, 73, e Spanish Aerlcan war veteran and 28 years a resident of Eugene, died at his home at 907 Twentieth . avenue east in Eugene Tuesday morning. Death was sudden, although he had been in bad health for a long time and had recently returned home from the United States vet erans' hospital in Portland where he had been receiving treatment Mr. Moeller was an active mem ber of General Lawton camp of the United Spanish War Veterans and was a member of the Mod ern Woodmen of. America lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Caroline Moeller, and two daugh ters, Miss Glodys D. Moeller of Oakland, Cal., and Mrs. Irene Tomasic, of New York City. The funeral arrangements are being made at the Branstetter Simon chapel. Mrs. Metta Muth Dies Mrs. Metta Muth died at her home, Rt. 3, Eugene, Monday afternoon, after an extended ill ness. Mrs. Muth was born June 17, 18BO, in cmcago, in.
