Clifford Haley, charged with having only one headlight, overtaking and passing a car on the right hand side, and having no Oregon operator's license, for feited bail of $5 Tuesday when he failed to appear in court. Mr. Haley, who appeared in court June 9 and plead not guilty to the charges against him, posted bail of $5 to appear on the tenth. Clifford Lansdon plead guilty at his hearing Tuesday, to the charge of harboring a vicious dog. He was assessed a fine of S10, to be suspended on condition that he dispose of the animal. Julian Tengs has been fined $5 for violation of the basic rule, Neil V. Torrey, 52 for U turn, and Robert A. Gordon, $1 for im proper parking. REBEKAH DRILL TEAM SPRINGFIELD. June 13. (Spe. Cable, to construct residence and garage, $1,000; Robert W. Smith, to con struct residence, $750. Man Struck By Car While Walking On Road Charles Julius Laufer, 59, Eu gene RFD 2, was struck by a car driven by Phillip Kelley St. Clair, living four miles north of Coburg, while he was walking on the road near the north end of the Terry street bridge Thursday evening after dark. He suffered a broken leg and cuts on different parts of his head and body. State police who investigated the accident said that Mr. Laufer was wearing dark clothing and that Mr. St. Clair did not see him. Mr. St. Clair took the injured man to the Eugene hospital and later he was transferred to the Sacred Heart hospital. J1KS NO SIR! Foreman, local branch made to employes who have oper nonjxtoi. fnr r.iimnro Oil pnm-1 ated their motor vehicles for ten pany, along with five other Ore-! eon division employes, was hon- ored last week when ten year gold watch awards were made by W. G. Julier, safety engineer, at the annual safe driving dinner in Portland. The watch awards were consecutive years without being responsible for even a minor traf- fic mishap. In addition to the ten-year safe drivers, three members of the I Oregon personnel who hod com- ! pleted five consecutive years without an accident received the five-year gold plaque award to gether with a "safe driver divi dend" check. Foreman was highly compli mented upon the outstanding rec ord at the Eugene branch in that his operation has not experienced a single motor vehicle accident since its' inception over ten years ago. Adding up the individual time for all employes at the local branch, they , have accumulated a total of 21 years without accident. . The large number of five and ten consecutive year awards is all the more remarkable, points out Julier, when it is considered that every traffic mishap, even though it result in no more than a scratched fender, is recorded. The Gilmore executive stated that 62 employes of the Gilmore company were this month pre sented with ten-year gold watch awards while 25 received the five-year gold plaque. To set up an even closer goal for all employes, including the newest members of the organiza tion, a yearly reward of a bronze pocket piece is included in the safety program. Julier reports that there were 335 of these an nual awards also distributed this month. Re-Active Club Party-Thursday Re-Active club members held their final gathering until fall, Thursday, as a picnic luncheon and bridge party at the summer home of Mrs. Rex Hamaker on the McKenzie. Twenty-five at tended. Mrs. Foster Burnett, Mrs. Ben Bowie, and Mrs. John Gallagher won the card honors. The group will resume its meet ings on the first Thursday in September. Mission Study Club Twenty members of the Inde pendent Mission Study Group of the Churches of Christ attended the meeting Thursday at the church. Mrs. C. L. Camp, who served for twenty-five years as a missionary in India, was the speaker. Jessie Palmer will lead the discussion on mis sionary work in the mountain re gions of the United States. The I meeting on August 14 will be at ! the Jessee farm at Central, with Mrs. Versel McCauley as leader. On September 11, the group will meet with Mrs. Russell Hendricks. Mrs. Ray Myers will be the lead er. If the weather permits, this will be an outdoor meeting. I. 0. O. F., Rebekah Give Joint Reception SPRINGFIELD, June 13 (Spe cial) The I. O. O. F. and Juanita Rebekah lodges of this city held a joint reception Tuesday evening to honor Elmer Pyne, new grand master for the state, and Oswald Olson, new grand high priest of the grand encampment. The program, for which Herbert Walker, past grand representative, was master of ceremonies, is as follows: Donald Fandrem, accord ion solo; Betty Jean Jacobson, vio lin solo; Mrs. J. E. Richmond, vocal solo and encore; talks by Mr. Pyne, Mr. Olson, and the grand officers, and group singing. Grand officers present from out of town were: Deputy grand mas ter, Judge Murphy of Salem; vice president of the grand assembly, Madalyn Rossner of Hillsboro; junior past president, Venetia Newby of Amity; three past grand masters, Fred Walker of Salem, Charles Poole and L. L. Baker of Eugene. Refreshments were served in the dining room after the program. Two More Draftees To Report June 23 Two Lane county army draftees selected by draft board No. 1 were named Friday and they are to re port to the board in the old post office building at 8:30 a. m. June 23 for induction into the army at Portland. The men named are V-3068 Wil liam Garland Lins and 249 Jam Glenn Cougill. Two men from each of the other two county boards were named a few days ago and they arc to report at the same time as these.
