IS. (Special) The Lions club met for luncheon and buiineaa meeting Thurtday noon at the Cottage Grove hotel. This was the snnual Christmas party end lifts of toys were exchanged. These toys will be sent to needy families along with the Christmas baskets. The scappella choir from the Union high school entertained with Christmas Carols. This choir Is led by Mln Marian Jelneck. The next meeting of the Lions club will be a 6:30 o'clock banquet to be held Wednesday evening in honor of the football squad. Quest speakers are to he Vaughn Corley and Mike Mikulak, line and bsckfield coach es from the University of Oregon. The Women's Council of the Christian church is sponsoring a basaar and food sale'"to be held In the office of the Cottage Grove Oa company on Saturday, De cember 14. The officers of the club, Mrs. H. B. Ferrln, Mrs. C. F. Hoskins and Mrs. N. E. Compton were in charge of srrsngsments. Following the luncheon s Christmas tree was held snd gifts exchanged. All members were present with the exception of Mrs. Maude Wright, who is in a Portland nospitai re ceiving medical treatment. A round robin letter was written to Mrs, Wright. There was a Short program and games were played. The proceeds will be used for treats at the annual school program to be given the evening of December 20. NIGHT SCHOOL TIEI.D JUNCTION CITY, Dec. 13 (Special) The farmer night school was held at the union school On the High Pass road west of Junction City, Monday evening with I good crowd attending. The discussion centered around the importance of nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus as plant foods. The discussion next week will continue along the same line with special emphasis on manures, their values, and what they furnish the coil. The discussion was canducted by Stanley Green, director of vo cational agriculture of the Junc tion City union high school. These meetings are sponsored by the Long Tom grsng and are made possible by the eoeperstlftn of the local union high school district and ths state and federal depig ment.! of vocational educstion.
