"Eugene' Fcuteet Growing Department Store" to ' ' . 1 Hi- J The program for rodent control In Lane county during 1940 has been outlined by the Lane County Agricultural council. The program, announced at the office of O. S. Fletcher, county agricultural agent, follows: Ground Squirrels 1. Carry on intensive campaign against gray digger ground squir rels in all parts of the county. 2. Ask farm organizations to nominate one rodent control su pervisor for each school district covered by the organizations to he appointed by the county courl with the understanding that the county agent shall select supervis ors in school districts not covered by any farm organization, provided farmers in such districts are suf ficiently interested to organize a local committee. 3. Publish notice to poison ground squirrels on March 14, 21 and 28 and sot Monday, April 1 as poisoning day. 4. Complete poisoning squirrels on neglected land by June 15 and urge all individuals doing own poisoning to complete the work by that date. Pocket Gophers and Moled 1. Conduct two demonstrations on methods of poisoning Willam etle Valley gophers and trapping moles. 2. Conduct four demonstrations on methods of controlling moles 'and small species of gophers, Rats 1. Assist farmers on rat control problems by disseminating infor mation on various control meas ures. Promote Interest by showing rat control films at grange and other meetings. Recommend pois oning rate wrth powdered red squill and gassing with calcium cyanide dust. Disseminate infor mation on cost of supporting rats. 2. Conduct four demonstrations on methods of poisoning and gass ing rats. Jack Rabbits 1. Disseminate information on the control of jack rabbits and conduct demonstrations on meth ods of poisoning same when nec essary. , Rodent Control Contests 1. Encourage a county-wide and community contests among 4-H club members and other children on the control of rodents. Urge granges to sponsor such contests. Predatory Animals 1. Cooperate with hunter predatory animal control work in Western Lane Club Leaders Will Meet A meeting of western Lane county Four-H club leaders for the election of officers and adop tion of a program for the coming year will be held at the Florence grade school building at 7:30 p. m., March 21. Mrs. Mary Neeley of Maplelon, temporary chairman, is calling the meeting. Western Lano club leaders nt a recent meeting voted to effect a permanent organization for the furtherance of the club program in that part of the county. At (lie meeting members of the North Fork Sewing club under the leadership of Mrs. Leo Mead ows will put nn a demonstration on "Scams." The members of the demonstration team are Beulah Huntington and Gonoise Swcarin gcn. Merrill New Owner Of Antler Cafe SPRINGFIELD, March 13. (Special) The Antler's cafe, owned by Ray Manning, was pur chased this week by J. A, Merrill, who expects to open his restaur ant business Friday. The cafe, located at 305 Main street, has been repaired and re modeled, and will now scat from 25 to 30 people. Mr. Merrill form erly owned a cafe at Cascade Locks and at Bonneville. Man Found Guilty In Recorder's Court SPRINGFIELD, March 13. (Special) La Verne La Porte, route 4, Eugene, was found guilty of the use of profane and obscene language In a public place at a hearing held in the recorder's court In Springfield at 5 p. m. Tuesday. The complaint was made by Irene Williams, manager of Irene's cafe. La Porte was given a fine of $5, which was suspended upon condition of good behavior.
