(Special) The Oakridge Girl Scouts have had a busy week as they finished up their year's work before school closes. They recently hiked to the Salmon Creek camp ground and had a picnic supper. The work taken up at this meeting was nat ure study and star study. The ten derfoots have taken all their ex aminations and are now full fledged scouts. Games were play ed. A refreshments committee was appointed to serve at next Mon day's meeting. Pearl Osterhaut and Lois Miller were appointed. Those present were Annie Jim Moore, Barbara Richter, Lois Mil ler, Shirley Tracy, Pearl Osterhaut, Muriel Morgan, Mary Lois Cotton, Lois Mae Croner, Ruth Steele and Miss Lever, scout leader. Refresh ments were served by Barbara Richter at the close of the meeting. The girls entertained the Westfir Girl Scouts with a swimming party at McCredie Springs. They were taken to the springs in a bus driven by H. Lundberg. After swimming and games were enjoyed, a weiner and marshmallow roast was held. Songs were sung around the camp fire. Guests from Westfir included Janet Lee Ramsdell, Orpha Stan ley, Anna Allen, Dorothy Snell, Jean Lovelace, Winifred Franz, Helen Neff, Shirley Neff, Phyllis Lansberry, Eileen Lansberry, Max ine Coffman, Myrtle Snell, Phyllis Eshom, Phyllis McMahan, Miss Helen Noland and Mrs. C. Several hu morous stunts were presented. L. G. Holeman and John West pre sented a style show; Ula Brendel, accrobatic stunt and Earl Friendly gave a tap dance. The Home Economics club met recently with Mrs. John West. The afternoon was spent sewing. Mrs. West was appointed general chair man of the dance committees. Re freshments were planned for the next grange meeting, with Mrs. Buel Beyerlin and Mrs. Cecil Bey- erlin on the serving committee. The officers of the grange met at the John West home last week to make plans for the entertain ment at the next grange meeting. Mohawk-McKenzie Mohawk- McKenzie grange members met In regular session at the grange hall last week. After the business meeting, Sarah Spores, lecturer, had a program for all mothers who were present. Songs were sung, readings were given and flowers presented in the mother's con test. On the program committee for an open meeting the master appointed Sarah Spores, Cleo Hill and Irene Sweezey. Refreshments were served by Lydia Edgell and Sarah Spores. The next meeting will be preceded by a covered dish dinner. Franklin Franklin grange will meet Wednesday evening, May 24. Those on the refreshment commit tee for this meeting are Mrs. Doak, Mrs. Hill. John Richardson, Pete Nelson. Raymond Holmes, Ted King. The H. E. club met at the hall last week and quilted two mat tress pads for the Corvallis Chil dren's Home. Those present were Mrs. Akerson, Mrs. Stingley, Mrs. Bryant. Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Florence Allen, Mrs. Floy Al len, Mrs. Eska Cheshire, Mrs. Clara Cheshire, Mrs. Phillips. At the regular meeting in June, the club members are to bring clothing to be sent to the home. West Point West Point grange will meet on Wednesday evening, May 24. The Ruthven and Roork families will have charge of the refreshments. Junction City At the recent meeting of the Junction City grange, Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Miller were elected alternates to the state eranee session at Corvallis. J. T. Robinson spoke on rodent control and the fat lamb show to be held in Junction City May 27. O. The one-act play, "Not Tonight," was presented by members from the Irving grange. Frank Gent was director. Mrs. O. A. Thompson was host ess to the Home Economic club at her home last week. During the business session the members made plans for Pomona, which will be held at the 4-H club building May 27 with Santa Clara grange as host. All grange members are asked to bring sandwiches, and silverware. Mrs. Delbert Addleman and little daughter and Miss Lillian Hart were visitors. Twenty-two mem bers were present. Dorena Preceding the regular meeting of Dorena grange recently Mr. Brown of the Lane county for estry patrol, had charge of the program at which time lie intro. duced J. H. Walker of the state department. Mr. Walker gave a talk of the ravages of fire and its prevention. Mr. Brown later show ed and explained the various ar ticles of government equipment used at all forestry stations througout the United States. The grange met in regular session with the worthy master, Loran Hunt, in the chair, all other officers except two being present. Mrs. Amanda Cooper was given first and second degrees. Orville Horner was giv. en third and fourth degree obliga' tions. The legislative committee chairman, Mr. Finnerty, read report from the Bonneville power project. The chairman, Raymond Wicks, of the agriculture commit tee, urged members to prepare to exhibit at the county and state fairs this fall. A. is sponsor ing softball games headed by Paul Bishop, director of Lane county grange athletics. Lewis Dodge was appointed chairman of Dorena dis trict to line up teams for the con tests. A letter was read from Mary Doolittle, who is located at Lakeview for a few months. Mrs Mary Arne was elected delegate to the state grange meeting to be held in Corvallis June 12 to 16 in elusive. The lecturer, Mrs. Lee Smith, announced that Pomona grange meets in Eugene, at the 4-H club building, fairgrounds, May 27, at which time members are urged to contribute flowers to be displayed. There will be a special grange program, open meeting, May 25, at which time Mrs. Nettie Gawley will have charge of the program. Mrs. Bettes of the Home Economics committee announced there were 393 sales slips turned in for April. The next regular meeting will be an all day meeting at the home of Mrs. Fetters. The next regular grange meet ing will be Juno 4 at which time the Y. G. A. members will have charge of part of the program and the Home Economics depart ment will have a display of old wedding eowns and other rare garments. (Special) Mrs. Margaret C. Stai nes who eel ebrated her 80th birthday last January has made approximately 100 quilts in the last eight years, Thirty of these quilts she has given to her 30 grandchildren. A num ber of her small granddaughters and great granddaughters have been made happy with doll quilts of which Mrs. Starnes has pieced 21. She has also pieced a number of quilts for babies cribs. The var ieties of the larger quilts include embroidered flower garden, pieced flower garden, embroidered cross, embroidered nansy, broken star, lone star, wedding ring, ragged robin, tulin nullt, humming bird tic quilts and other varieties. She has also made a number of beautl ful pieces of fancy work. A col lection of her handiwork of the last few years would make a beau tlful display. MR. TRIMBLE TO SPEAK DRAIN, May 20.
