(Special) The Leaburg Parent-Teacher association met recently at the .schoolhouse for a potluck supper Forty-eight were present. A short business meeting followed the sup per, at which time it was derided to purchase two softhalls for the use of the school children. Also a program was planned to precede the carnival which is to be given In March. A committee of three. Mrs. Marion F.lston. chairman, Mrs. Cleo Carter and Mrs. Middleton, were appointed by the president to have charge of this program. Fol lowing the business meeting a pro gram was presented with Mrs. Orville Rankins and Mrs. Ted De dude in rharge. It included a song by the audience. Recitation by Lawrence Hansen; duet, by Hetty Billings and Joy Fish; duet by Mrs. Walter Carter and Mrs. Mid dleton: a skit. "Renting a House" by Mr. and Mrs. Middleton; rhythm band by school students; solo by Mrs. Wesley Hansen; song by the audience; two piano solos by Jimmy Howelli! song by the audience. The association now has 33 members and a number of others are planning to join. The next meeting will be held on the evening of March 17, at which lime another potluck supper is planned. Each family to bring its own table service. SILVER TEA HELD EI.KTON, Feb. 21. (Special) A silver tea was given recently under the auspices of the Dorcas society at the home of Mrs. R. O. Thomas. A program was given. Mrs. Ida Thomas and Mrs. Mable Rader sang a duet; Miss Eleanor Beckley sang; Mrs. Catherine Fen ley gave a reading; Mrs. Elizabeth DeLaire sang; Mrs. Edith Gates gave a reading; Iris Haines read a paper on Valentine day; Mrs. Vesta Sawyers gave a reading; Mrs. Gladys Griffith sang a birth day song for Mrs. Edith Adams and Miss Eleanor Beckley. whose birthdays were that day. Feb 21 (Spe cial) A large group of parents and teachers from Smith River. Gardiner, Dean's Creek, Winches ter Bay and Reedsport, attended the "open house" held recently in the Reedsport high school in honor of "Founder's Day" of the Nation al Parent-Teacher organization. A short concert was given by the school band after which a report and the recommendations of the executive committee meeting of the local P.-T. A. were read and approved. Mrs. C. W. Walls, presi dent of the Oregon Congress of rarent-Teachers, was the speaker of the evening. A candle lighting ceremony was given by Mis. (Special) The Donna church is giving a pro gram followed by a fish pond and a white elephant sale at the schoolhouse Saturday evening, Feb. 25. Pie, cake and coffee will also be sold. This social is to help raise funds to put a new roof on the church. All are cordially invited to attend MANY EVENTS PLANNED THURSTON, Feb. 21. (Special) Thurston folk are especially busy this week with social and church events. On Monday evening, the ladies of the H. C. club met for discussion on preparations for the dinner they are to serve to grange members and their families, Wed nesday evening. Tuesday evening at the Thurston hall drill team practice and rehearsal will be held by grange members and officers and the same evening a church night business session and party will be held at the Thurston church by the congregation. Wednesday evening will be the grange supper, which is being given by the ladies of the grange, losers in the recent membership campaign, and they are paying their debt to the men of the grange by serving a family dinner. Thursday evening the Thurston grange is paying its an nual visitation to the neighboring grange. Wednesday the Thurston Ladies' Aid society is meeting all day at the social room of the church for the regular quilting. Meetings will be held each week until the quilt is out of the frames. BUILD NEW CHURCH REEDSPORT. Feb. 21. (Spe cial) A new church building is being constructed by members of the congregation of the Assembly of God on a lot purchased recent ly from the city of Reedsport. Rev. D. L. Roye is the pastor. The building, which will consist of one large room with seating capacity for about 150 persons, is to be 30 by 40 feet in size, and will be lo cated in the same block as the American Legion community hall. Labor is being donated by mem bers of the congregation and com pletion and occupancy planned for early in the spring. FROM BELLFOUNTAIN BELLFOUNTAIN, Feb. 21. (Special) Walter Lemon who has been seriously ill for several weeks, returned recently from the Corvallis General hospital, and is now at the home of his sister, and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Reader. Mrs. Kenneth Masson and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Masson have ar rived from Portland for a few days stay in this vicinity. Mrs. Kenneth Masson was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Larkin, while Mr. and Mrs. Masson stayed at their ranch recently vacated by Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Pague. NEW FAMILIES REPORTED MAPLETON, Feb.. 21. (Spe cial) A new settlement seems to be underway near here. Six fami lies have settled in trailer houses j and the like near the covered bridge over Knnwles creek on Route F two miles from Mapleton. C. W. McLoughlin has been there several months and now five other ! families working on the WPA proj ect nave settled there. MONROE NEWS MONROE, Feb. 21. (Special) The Royal Neighbors held their social meeting last week. A pot luck lunch was served at noon. The afternoon was spent playing 500 and bridge. (Special) The Jasper Christian church will hold a special business session at the church, Friday evening, Feb. 24, commencing at 8 p. m. The purpose of the meeting is to select a minister for the remainder of the year and to discuss the proposi tion of erecting a new church building. Everyone interested is invited to attend.
