IRVING GRANGE MEETS IRVING, Dec. 21 (Special) The Irving grange met last week it the hall with all newly installed efficers in the chairs. The new lecturer, Mrs. Lyle Lee, presented ker program consisting of a three tt play and songs by the Lone Pine school under the direction of heir teacher, Lyle Lee. Each child received a doll and a pattern which were taken home. The mothers helped dress the dolls, and the children named them. Tillie Dorffler is th teacher of the grade. Christmas Program Is Set For Friday At Thurston , THURSTON, Dec. 21. (Special) The Thurston grade school is presenting its Christmas program at the schoolhouse Thursday eve ning, Dec. 22. The public is invited to the exercises. The program at the Thurston church will be held Friday evening. The Young people are preparing the program for this night. Musical numbers and readings will be main features of the evening. The Thurs ton high school is also having a program and party for the pupils. programThe- ARRANGES PROGRAM DEERHORN, Dec. 21 (Special) At a meeting called by Mrs. R. T. Kooier, president of the Deer horn P.-T. A., recently, the pro grams for the coming year were arranged. Plans were made to have motion pictures at least once; a pot luck supper in January, inviting Leaburg society on the last Friday of the month; a supper sale in March to raise funds for activities of the society; and the monthly program committees were ten tatively arranged. Those who at tended the committee meeting were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Currant, Mrs. Osmer Stacy, Mrs. Everett Wearin, Lester Wheeler, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Potter, Mr. and Mrs. Rennie Kooz er and Ward Koozer, at whose home the affair was held. PROGRAM FRIDAY UPPER SPENCER CREEK, Dec. 21 (Special) The Spencer Creek school will have its Christmas pro gram and party Friday afternoon, Dec. 23. Harold Clouse has returned home after spending two weeks in California with Ed Thurston selling Christmas trees. STUDY CLUB MEETS BAILEY HILL, Dec. 21 (Spe cial) The Bailey Hill Study club was scheduled to meet last week with Mrs. Kenneth Nielson; but due to illness in the home, the meeting place was changed to the home of Mrs. Carl Pfeiffer. The at tendance was so small that those present spent the afternoon visit ing. The next meeting will be on January 11 with Mrs. Harold Car penter. Work in the woods is to reopen Wednesday, Dec. 28 following the few days shutdown. QUILTING DONE BELLFOUNTAIN, Dec. 21 (Special) The Quilting club met recently at the school gymnasium for the weekly session and spent the day quilting for Mrs. Ernest Smith and tied a wool quilt for Mrs. C. R. Irvin. A potluck lunch eon was served at the noon hour by Miss Florence Smith and Miss Myrth Lamb. The ladies decided to dispense with the next week's meeting because of the many Christmas activities, and plans to meet again on Thursday Decem ber 29, when it is hoped the men may also meet for their annual wood cutting for the church. The ladies will quilt for Mrs. Bruce McKeehan at the next meeting. Ladies present included Mrs. J. J. Lamb, Mrs. Bruce McKeehan and son Paul, Mrs. C. R. Irvin, Mrs. Ernest Smith, Mrs. H. C. Holter, Mrs. J. V. Bain, Mrs. Howard Buckingham, Mrs. F. A. Nusbaum, Miss Edith Larkin, Miss Myrth Lamb and Miss Florence Smith. Dinner guests of the club were Mrs. Leta M. PIANO RECITAL REPORTED VENETA, Dec. 21 (Special) A recital was given at the Karl Gard ner home when Miss Lois Gard ner presented seven of her piano pupils from the Central commun ity. Those playing were: Marjorie Halderson, Lenore Halderson, Jacque Swanson, Wilma Samuel, Wayne Samuel, Unice Petzold, and Merrie Petzold. A group of about 35 relatives and friends gathered for the evening's entertainment. Refreshments were served. Goheen and Mrs. W. O. Barnett has arrived from Russell, N. D., to spend the winter here. Mr. Goheen has visited Creswell a number of times and has many friends who greet his return. Refreshments were served as compliments of the club. VANDALS DAMAGE TREES CRESWELL, Dec. 21. (Spe. cial) Vandals did damage to the Christmas setting of trees along both sides of the street downtown Monday evening. J. E. Smith, lo cal transfer man, brought in a load of fir trees one day last week and set them out in the parking to add to the holiday spirit of town, r.ot daunted by the depredations he reset the trees Tuesday morning in hopes that they may remain long enough to serve the purpose' for which they were placed. (Special) The Kimball Bros, sawmill has shut down until after Christmas. They are making arrangements for more timber to log. Grange Reports Events SPENCER CREEK. A Christmas tree had been decorated and placed in the middle of the hall. Small gifts were exchanged and a Christ mas treat of oranges, nuts, candy and coffee was served by the losing side of the membership attendance contest. There were 41 members, one visitor and twelve juveniles present. NORKENZIE NOTES NORKENZIE, Dec. 21 (Special) Ross Manning is reported to have recovered from his recent illness. Clarence Rutherford and his sister, Mrs. Glen Romane made a recent trip to Oakrldge. Clarence Hover Jr., Is spending his vacation at the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hover. He is in the navy. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harlow are expecting their daughter-in-law, Florence Harlow, and their grand daughter, Shirlev Harlow from Portland to spend Christmas. Shirley will remain until her school opens In Portland. Mrs. Har low will return to Portland im mediately after Christmas. INC., SCMINlfY. A. Christmas Event' At Lowell School On Friday Evening LOWELL, Dec. 21 (Special) A Christmas program to be given at Lowell grade school Friday at 7 p. m., is being prepared. A play entitled "The Cowboy's Christ- ' will be presented by sixth, seventh and eighth grade pupils under the direction of Mrs. Single ton. Characters in the play are Bill Crampton, Dorothy O'Connor, Ben- ita Greer. Jean Hill, Darren steirs, Lonnie Crampton, Wade Sheasley, Harry Gregory, Roy Newman, ana Mac Malone. The intermediate grades will present a Christmas pageant. "Carols," sung by girls costumed as angels, will tell the story of the Christ child. In the cast are Jac queline Anderson, Mary; Geno Parkton, Wayne Evans, George Roberts, Dean Levitt, Edwin Ma lone, Virgia Lee Stockton, Carmen Gregory, Dorothy O'Connor, Shir ley Sheasley, Lorraine Evans, Bev erly Veach and Peggy Holbrook. In the chorus are Benita Greer, Elizabeth and Ethel Kalus, Dale Mossey, Jessie and Mary Claus, Jean Hill and Mavis Stearns. A skit "Picketing for Santa" and Rhythm Band numbers including all primary pupils; piano accord ion solos, and recitations will com plete the program.
