Cities Set Budget Meetings; Socials, Benefits Arranged By GroUT Budget Election Is Planned At Creswell CRESWELL, Oct. 21 (Special) Property owners are reminded of the annual budget election to be held at the schoolhouse Satur day of this week from 2 until 7 p. m. Notices have been posted and will be of interest to patrons of the Creswell Union high school dis trict 12 which includes Creswell, Camas Swale, Upper Swale, Howe, Cloverdale and Bear Creek schools. The amount is $7fi!6. SOCIAL EVENTS COTTAGE GROVE, Oct. 21. (Special) Neighbors of Woodcraft met socially Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. J. P. Graham. Mrs. Horace Hatch and Mrs. Max Plath were assistant hostesses. Twenty were present. At bridge Mrs. Sylvia Widenor, Mrs. George Kcbelbcck and Mrs. Fred Bressler won prizes. Refreshments were served. Halloween season formed the motif for decorations, the rooms being colorful with basket of fall flowers and autumn fol iage. Utopia club met with Mrs. Har ry Metcalf Thursday. A 1:30 des sert was served. Halloween deco rations were attractive. The aft ernoon was spent socially and the group voted to contribute $3 to the school milk fund. Mrs. S. D. Fer rin and Mrs. J. C. C. Goheen. The receipts were $15. Mrs. W. B. Gillespie was in charge of the devotions. Mrs. Crawford presid ed at the business meeting. Plans were made for the annual bazaar and chicken supper, Friday, Dec. 2. Mrs. Gillespie was appointed chairman of the supper committee and Mrs. Crawford will serve it second chairman. A social eve ning at the manse for the Chris tian Endeavor members was also planned with Mrs. Goheen, Mrs. Arthur Olson and Mrs. C. C. Mason in charge. A letter of apprecia tion from Mrs. R. E. Dersham for flowers was read. "An Invitation was received from the Sisterhood of the Christian church to attend a social afternoon at their service room Wednesday, Oct. 26. The next meeting will be held at the manse with Mrs. Mason, Mrs. Gil lespie and Mrs. A. W. Schwering as hostesses. Quilting was to be done at the manse Friday. Guests for the afternoon were Mrs. W. Portand, OrefM Special Meeting Planned By Grange WALTERVILLE, Oct. 21. (Spe cial) Waltervllle grange, No. 416, met in regular session at the N. O. W. hall recently with 27 visit ors In the hall, 17 members and over 20 candidates. The regular grange session was carried out and a special meeting planned for Nov. 11 to 'be held at the Grange hall. This will be an open meeting. The grange voted on the names of 28 candidates and re ceived several of them into mem bership. Mr. Baker, master of the Jasper grange, and Mr. Friedly master of McKenzie grange, were present and gave short talks. Ross Mathews, Pomona officer of Thurston, was also present and addressed the group. The Initiates were Introduced to the grange and membership and an expres' sion of appreciation was given the Jasper grange for attending and putting on the drill work and con ducting the initiation in the first and second degree for the local grange. Stellmacher, dep uty state fire marshal, gave a short talk before a student as sembly last week. He spoke in behalf of fire prevention week and passed out material to help elimi nate fire hazards in the home. "Crazy House" is the name of this year's student body play, to be presented Friday, Nov. 18. The cast has been selected and play practices are now under way. Charles G. Tryor, ad jutant general reserve, has re ported for duty as Junior officer at Camp Reedsport. Lt. Tryor, whose home Is in Gilroy, Cel., is administrator for the California board of equalization, and has taken leave of absence while he is serving the Civilian Conserva tion Corps. MILL DOWN WHILE WALTON, Oct. 21. (Special) The Walton Lumber company mill has been idle a few days be ing unable to log until the new bridge is completed. (Special) Friday evening, Oct 'is, the high school is giving its first party of the year in the form of a Halloween masquerade. Only high school students are being ad mitted to this affair. There will be a grand march In the early partxif the evening, at which time prizes will be awarded to the per sons wearing the funniest cos tume, the ugliest costume, the prettiest costume, etc. After the grand march, there will be cards and table games, card playing and dancing lor entertainment. Re freshments will be served as a con clusion to the Halloween party. CRESWELL NEWS CRESWELL, Oct 21. (Special) Mrs. Alfred Finnell have left for Monroe, Wash., to attend the fun eral of her grandfather who died last week. Starting next week Mrs. Milo Thomson will give piano lessons at the gymnasium each Friday after noon. Her pupils are Gordon Montgomery, Twila and Corriene Hall and Stanley Finn. Town send and a truck loaded with saw logs driven by Frank Miller col lided in the Thorn bridge Thurs day. No one was injured ser-1 iously. The Townsend car was badly damaged. (Special) The logging crew, working for the El iot Lumber company, was laid off Tuesday afternoon due to a heavy wind storm. Work on the Elliot road has been discontinued for a few days. (Spe cial) The Thurston ladies aid society will hold its silver tea for the month of October at the home of Mrs. J. B. Endicoit. This group holds a silver tea the last Friday in the month. This one to be October 28. Ladies of the vicinity are in vited to attend the silver teas as well as the regular meetings of the aid society. FOR MRS. (Spe cial) The Thurston church held its rally a services recently. A basked dinner was served after the morning services. More than 100 were present for the day's activities at the church. This group is planning for a social to be held the latter part of Oc tober to benefit the week-day Bible school treasury. (Special) A benefit dance was given recently at the Walker audi torium in honor of Howard Keene with a large attendance. Monthly Meeting Is Held By Church COBURG, Oct. 21. (Special) The monthly church night gather ing of the Methodist Episcopal church was held in the social room of the church this week. A covered dish dinner was served to approximately 40 persons. A de votional service was led by Dr. J. D. McCormick. Plans were made for the November church meeting, which will be held on Wednes day evening, Nov. 16. A commit tee including Mrs. Arthur Barrett Mrs. George Neat, Mrs. John Mountain and Mrs. J. A. Roork was appointed to take care of the social hour for the gathering. COBl'RG CLUB MEETS COBURG, Oct. 21. (Special) The Neighborly Neighbors club met at the home of Mrs. Will James, this week.
