The building, located at Sixth and B streets, was purchased by P. J. Bartholomew last Hay. It was orig inally a Catholic church. From that tlmo until now, Mr. Bartholomew has been working steadily at the project until he hna completed what dcservca to be ranked as the major building project In Springfield -of the past few years. The house, as It now stands, Is a one-story building, finished In a light grocn ahade, with the roof a darker green. The exterior finish la of ahingllng. There is a porch at either end of the main building, extending toward the sidewalk. One entrance leads into the chapel; the other to Mr. Bartholomew's office. The aur roundlngs hare been carefully land scaped. Room for 130 People The chapel, aeatlng 180 persona comfortably, Is a 24 by 40 foot room, finished In antique Ivory, and the celling In light pastels. The furnish ings are of antique lrory. The feature of thla room Is the In direct lighting, a feature which all publio placoa could afford to adopt. Utilizing th beams which give the chapel an Old English atmosphere, Indirect lighting has been Installed Inside the beams. The result la well worth the trip of Inspection. Another feature of the chapel Is furnished by the benches. Not the ordinary, stiff-backed Bents of famil iar church use, these benches are form fitting, designed entirely for comfort. As a reanlt of Mr. Bar tholomew's work, the chnpcl ta thoughtful of comfort In evory re spect In a balcony alcove In the rear of the room, la the place provided, for musicians at funornls. An orgnn Is altuated there, with provision made for other musicians. It, too, la lighted Indirectly, Wine-colored velour drapes, rich and henvy, drape over stencilled chnpcl wlndowa, giving on atmosphore of seclusion. Adjoining the chapel la the family room, 18 by 18 feet, fiulshcd very quietly and yet completely. Across from the fnmlly room are two slum ber rooms, both beautifully done. On the northeast end of the build ing Is the. gnrago-furnnce room. A giant furnnco tnkea enre of heating problems; but the owner has been thoughtful enough to Install an air conditioner which will Insure a free circulation of air In all rooms. The north row of rooma included a waah room, preparation room, and office. Stairs lending to the music alcove are in the office. Aside from the chnpel, aeml-lndlrect lighting Is used In all rooma. Carpets are of heavy material and are used on all floor space. Although the building has been constructed with as much fire-proof mnterlal as poaaihle, further fire protection la nvniinble In extinguishers. Dr. Frederick Slrieker, stale henllh officer, and tilrn Mney, sl-crelary of the Oregon State funeral directors'! association, made a r!nl trip to Inspect the new chapel Tuesday night, and both offered enthatlswtic praise of the etnictnrt a being completely modern, one of the best of Ita kind in thn state.
