"Jlffdients that go to makei up a successful picture. From reports gleaned from the leading newspapers. "Westward Passage" is by far the finest Ann Harding vehicle that has been ground out of the. RKO-Pathe flicker factory this season. It has to do with the compelling story of love and matrimony, divorce and second marriage. Miss Harding is ably sup ported by Laurence Olivier as her leading heart throbber. Ho is the English matinee idol who was import ed by the studio at much expense to work in this particular production. He will be well on his way to stardom after the fans of this movie mad land start expounding his sex appeal and general ability. Coming during a period when des pondent citizens are turning to for tune tellers, soothsayers and other types of mystics for information con cerning the end of the depression. 'Sinister Hands,' the new feature picture on the nroeram of the State theatre will undoubtedly prove of interest to tne local movie patrons. "Sinister Hands." produced by Willis Kent Is a startling expose of the manner of operation of these vultures who roam the country prey ing upon the minds of the ignorant and gullible and thereby enrich themselves to the trune of many thousands of dollars. If "Sinister Hands" did nothing but servo as ft warning to our peo ple not to patronize these fakers, then it would have served an ad mirable purpose. But it does more than just educate. It provides a complete hour of very interesting entertainment with the exposure of a quack fortune-teller ns the basis of the story. The producer has assembled an extraordinary cast of picture head liners to enact the leading roles in this story of quackery, romnnee and murder. Heading the list are Jack Mulhall and Phyllis Barrineton and closely following these stellar lights are Helen Foster. Crau ford Kent. Miwhn- Alter. Gertie Mcssinger. and many others. Cuy Kibbee contributes bar rels of fun as a jovial drunk in a night club. The theme Is said to be a com posito story of the lives of famous crooners nnd tnkes a satirical jab at the vanities of professional enter tainers. It is guy and jazzy, n reve lation of the wild hysteria of night club life, although- it carries a ser ious vein of delightful romance. It abounds with humorous sequences and exciting action, interspersed with sparkling dinlogiip from the pen of the well-known author nnd columnist, Ilinn .lames. "Vivian Ware" To Play at Fox Rex The widely discussed radio thrill er. "The Trial of Vivienne Ware." will come Thursday and Friday to the Rex. The Fox McDonald announces many entertaining features on its program beginning today for the next thrp days. Headlining the bill, of course, will be the screen feature "Mlondie of the Follies" which brings Marion Da vies and Robert Mont gomery to the screen as co-stare In this opus of New Yorks greatest stage attraction. Louise Carter, Clyde Cook and the Rocky Twins, direct from the Paris miisicnl stage. It is the story of two New York girls who gradunte from poverty In the enements to the extravagance and luxury of Park Avenue. They are the closest of chums and tha bitterest of rivals, vet both seek to sacrifice their henna when it comes to the love of the same man. Dickie Moore and Chic Sale Starred that, it is an absolutely new kind of picture. Nothing like this has ever been ! done in pictures before, nnd the ef fect is not only sturtlingly realistic, but marks a precedent the most revolutionary since tulking pictures begnn. The story of the picture Is simple and elemental. A bride and groom spend their honeymoon in a cabin on the Icy slopes of Pit I'nlti, a peak in the high Alps.
