OP The railroad issues were whittled down in today's market to the general level of tne 8ir-year low recorded at the bot. torn of the bear market last Decern, ber. Several individual Issnei fell to new low levels for the past several years, but the Rail stocks generally appear ed to meet some support around the eeneral level of December 17. Virtual ly all of the dav'a decline was record ed by early afternoon, and the market drifted along almost horizontally dur ing the late trading. There were i few rallies of a point or so in the last few minutes, but the market as a whole closed near the day's worst, with a weak tone. Transfers were only about 2.000.000 shares. U. S. Steel dropped 3 points to new low since 1027 at 127 1-2 and closed within a fraction of the bot torn. Illinois Central dropped six to the lowest in at least 30 years, then recovered a point.
