MADSEN Farm Editor, The Statesman RICKREALL James Smart, Spring Valley, chairman of the an nual Polk County Spring Lamb show, said he put on a good show Tuesday. When all judging was completed, Smart had captured three of the four purple championship ribbons offered. Smart's champion single was a stocky little Southdown cross, while his pen of three was a Southdown -Suffolk- Romney cross. Judge George. Potts, Portland, said the three were "as uniform as any three lambs could be." The judge also remarked that the entire 350 lambs exhibited Tuesday were "excellent quality." Ribbons Presented Claude Stuesloff, Salem, chair man of the Willamette Valley Ram Sale, Inc. presented the purple ribbons to Smart. Bruce Arnold, Pacific Wool Growers, Portland, Judged the number of fleeces also exhibited. Top place winners here were Mc- Crae Bros., Monmouth, braid class; Charles E. Baker, McCoy, ft quarter blood; Kenneth McCrae, quarter blood, and N. John Han sen, Dallas, low quarter. Arnold remarked that much of the wool this spring was weak in strength. Too many growers had felt that because the winter was open, the sheep needed no sup plementary feeding, and this left the wool weak, the judge said.
