Salem, Ore., Sun., Apr. 13, '58 ' 21 Rooms Nearing Completion at Salem Methodist Home for Aged H Methodist Boone for the elderly at 1625 Center St NE will have 21 new rooms ready for oc cupancy early next month, it was announced this week end. Work on the first two floors of the wing is almost completed and the third floor is roughed in. Date of completion of the latter will de pend on the success of a current solicitation for gifts, in the Salem area. The Methodist Home, founded in 1923. is operated under the aus pices of -the Oregon Conference Women's society oi unnsuan aerv- ice of the Methodist Church. It has previously had facilities for 65 to 70 guests. Their average age is 85 years and their residency ranges up to 21 years. The oldest guest is 103. All religious denominations ' are welcome, with Methodists . given preference on the waiting list. There are . 12 denominations now represented at the 'home, which receives most of its operating money from admission fees, or boarding plan payments, and from continuing gifts from groups and individuals. Eighteen new guests already are scheduled to move into the new wing next month, bringing total occupancy to mora tnan 80. The wing will be consecrated Monday, June 2, during the annual meet ing of the Methodist Home Cor poration, and on Sunday, June 6, there will be an open bouse. Time Running Short Neuberger said time' Is running short for any action on the Eisen hower administration bill which provides that 1; private industry willing to cut on a sustained yield basis get first chance to buy the Indians' timber. Under the bill the government would then buy the rest and put It into the national forest , Only part of the Klamath tim berlands would be up for sale in any event. The Indians are vot ing now on whether they want to withdraw irom the tribe and take their share in cash. Wl Two youngsters apparently weighed down by hip boots drowned in a pond Saturday after their fishing boat capsized. A third boy swam to shore. The victims were identified as Thomas Megnin, 10, and William Biegel Jr., 12. Efforts by members of the fire department and ambulance corps to revive the children failed. Vincent Dean, 12, a third fish erman in the boat, managed to kick off his boots and swim to shore. Beaches Yield Big Crop of Japan Floats DEPOE BAY tfl The recent high winds along the Oregon coast have washed up great num-; bers of Japanese fishnet floats on the beaches near here.
