M A washable, expandable, install ment-plan school of steel that gets built in 90 to ISO days was sue seated today as a possible answer to the nation s school shortage. First to try the Mea ia the East are the Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph's College, whose new Moth er Setoa Elementary School was opened for display here today. Nestling at the foot of the Catoc tin Mountain range, not far from President Eisenhower's Gettys ' burg. Pa., farm, it is a gleaming - rose, yellow and turquoise, T shaped, one-story schoolhouse. Built in IS working weeks, H cost $366.000 all furnishedhas 12 classrooms and a "cafetorlum" That's aa auditorium that doubles as a cafeteria, with tables and chairs folding into the wall. Nearly $1,000 was taken from safes and tills during the break ins, which, police said, apparently occurred Tuesday night or Wed nesday morning. Firms struck were the Coca Cola Bottling plant, where $730 was re moved from a safe; Valley Fruit and Produce Co.. where a safe and its $6 contents were both taken; F. A. Bailey Grocery store, and Davidson Baking Co., where small amounts were reported missing. Portland City Council Asks Senate Probe PORTLAND, Dec. 30 (JH The Portland City Council today asked a U.S. Senate investigating com mittee to bold hearings here on accusations made by leaders of the Teamsters Union. A unanimously approved reso lution requests Sen. McClelland (D-Ark) chairman of the perma nent subcommittee on investiga tions, to hold sessions here. Com mittee investigators for the past months have been carrying on a nation-wide study of reports of improper activities by unions. The resolution was introduced by Commissioner Stanley Earl who said that the Oregon Team ster, .the union's newspaper, has charged various city officials "of having committed certain illegal acts...The people of Portland are entitled to a full and complete air ing of any and all charges made against city officials and others." Clyde C. Crosby, international representative for the Teamsters Union, for a while headed a cam paign to attempt to defeat Earl's bid for re-election. Crosby is under indictment on charges of conspiring to commit a felony and extortion. The indict ments are an outgrowth of a grand jury Investigation into newspaper charges of vice and corruption in the city. - Silverton Names Contest Winner luUnui Kin Sarrle SILVERTON. Dec. M Charles Leonard won sweepstakes honors In the Silverton Junior Chamber of Commerce fourth annual Christ mas house-lighting contest tonight. Winners in two other divisions were Dave Demeter and Bill Wil liams. The Jaycees and nine local merchants sponsored the contest v.;,-. :, "..-,'.. . . . . washed and requires little mainte nance. The designers, Structo Schools Corp. of Boston, Mass., said they spent five years of research to get a school to meet the major school requirements and workable for areas of wide weather variations, from earthquake locales to tropic or snowy climates. Mass Predated ; The major idea is to use mass produced steel panels, and stand ardized equipment like building blocks. You can arrange the blocks anyway you like for any number of classrooms, get the ma terials shipped in ready for assem bly by local labor. And you can add more classrooms later at a relatively low cost, the say." Structo claims conventional buildings can't come close to its speed in getting the school up. Building costs may be about the same, but the best feature is sow maintenance, tbey add. And where states permit, aa in stallment lease-purchase plan is available. Salem Obituaries Lawyers for Crosby Seek Court Action Attorneys for Clyde Crosby filed a mandamus proceeding in the State Supreme Court Thursday seeking to compel the Multnomah County Circuit Court to grant him aa Immediate trial on a charge of a convict unlawfully carrying a firearm.
