The State Tax Commission, acting in place of the county board of equalization, Thursday started mailing individual notices to the growers informing them of the actions of the commission and explaining the - nature of their decision. " Orders Sent . The substitute board, in wind ing up its legal duties, is sending orders to Robert G. Fowler. Jackson county assessor, to change the individual values to conform with the values found by tbe commission. In most cases the changes result from new information on acreage and the physical condition of the or chards. " Omission of "the orchards trees from the i tax rolls was brought to light during the course of the reappraisal program in Jackson County. Tax commission ap praisers discovered that produc ing orchard land was placed on the tax rolls at the same value given to bare land alone. In the controversy that developed as result of the additional value placed on the trees by the ap praisers, 225 orchardists filed no tices of appeal with the Jackson County board of equalization. Urges Effort to Reactivate Air Further efforts to reactivate the airport control tower in Salem, and to prevent de-commissioning of three low-frequency ranges (beams), were urged by the State Board of Aeronautics: in session in Salem Thursday. r , ! . ; The board also instructed Direc tor Earl Snyder to obtain two-way radio equipment for installation at the Meacham weather station' in the Blue Mountains on an experi mental basis. It was indicated if the Meacham installation is found valuab in providing up-to-the-minute weather reports to pilots, similar installations might be made elsewhere in areas with frequent weather changes. The equipment would be ' operated by personnel of the federal weather bureau. Efforts Endorsed , T .The board endorsed recent ef forts of Snyder and the board chairman, A. J.' Dwyer of ; Port land, to have the Salem control tower put back into operation, and to restore the flight-plan service which was discontinued last Mon day at the weather bureau which had taken it over when the control tower was abandoned by order of the CAA. Snyder said he flight-plan ser vice was inaugurated by the CAA in 1930 after it had been deter mined the number of planes in has done everything within its power to assure a correct and valid assessment roll. He said the procedure set up by the com mission, to accommodate the or chardists will not interfere with the printing and mailing of tax statements in time for Jackson County taxpayers to obtain the three, per cent discount by pay ing their taxes in advance of the November 15 deadline. and M '" to ... . - ' II Traffic Tower t - ' - - - I Oregon had increased 7per cent, the number of pilots 28 per icent Thi beams which the CAA has proposed to abandon eminate from Eugene and Baker in' Oregon; and Toletjo in Washington. The (state board has contended the low-frequency ranges are vital in winter time when planes fly below cloud ceilings and ofttimes are not high enough to catch VHF signals. It was explained that Toledo ori .the Portland-Seattle route would be left with no bean at all if the cut-back goes into effect. oration v. . Articles Filed By. Bergs, Iiiq.
