Southern Cal Gets Another Heat Beating By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Southern California took another beating from the heat Tuesday. Residents ot the Los Angeles re gion were resigned to their sev enth day in a row of temperatures of ;00 or higher, Burba nk had a lunchtime reading of 102. The temperature hit 102 in Los Angeles at 2:27 p.m., toppling a 64-year-old -record for the date. A reading of 104 was forecast for Wednesday. The coroner's office in Los An geles attributed S3 deaths directly to the heat marathon. Crop damage was estimated in the millions. ' ; Six forest fires burned out of control after blackening more than 50,000 acres of timber and cut-over land in Northern and Central Cali- fornia. s It was hot. too, in Utah, Nevada, Kansas, Oklahoma, the interior sections of the gulf states and other parts of the southern half of the country. ern and central plains and the up- per Mississippi Valley.
