We learned later that Cherburg was one of Hitler's biggest submarine bases. Famous Sights ' After the . trip through the English Channel the delegation came to the end of their cruise at Tilbury, England. An educa tion met us as soon as we stepped off the ship into the customs. The delegation went through customs without any trouble, bat not all were as fortunate. Our trip from Tilbury to London by train was spent looking at many famous sights as they unfolded in front of us. Ruins of buildings met us again but this time in London. We were all surprised at the rabble that still is left from the famous "London Blitz." After a short night sleep at the Croy- den YMCA, we started our three day tour of London. The first day was spent looking at 01d Baily, Buckingham Palace, ' SL Paul's Cathedral. Trafalgar square, Piccadilly circus and a tour of the city. Shakespeare Land The second day we traveled out through Shakespeare's country. Our first stop was at Oxford where we looked over the fa metis university. Then we went on to Stratford-on-Avon where Shake speare was born. The biggest shock of the day for all of us was that we learned that it is believed that Shakespeare did not do the writing. A professor at Oxford U. has been studying up on the idea for fourteen years and-the theory is -that Mario who was exiled did the writing and sent his stor ies to Shakespeare' for publica tion and Shakespeare took the glory. Royal Jewels , On Saturday the third day of our tour we saw the royal jew els "at the London Tower" and the changing of the guard. The highlight of the day was the tour at Westminister Abbey, we saw the place and the throne where Queen Elizabeth was crowned. The tomb of George Williams, the founder of the YMCA was viewed in the crypt at St. Pauls. Beneath his statue was inscribed his words "My last legacy, and it is a precious one, is the Young Mens Christian Association. I leave it to you beloved young men of many countries to carry on and to extend." He was given many thanks from all of us, be cause of him we are on this trip of a life time. The majority of the delegation decided that England was color less and very drab. G. L.
