Miss Mary, Laughlin Reveals Engagement to Mr. Barlow Romantic news being revealed today is announcement of the engagement and forthcoming marriage Miss Mary Penelope Laughlin, daughter of Mrs. S. B. Laughlin and the late Dr. Laugh lin. to Howard William . Barlow, son of Mrs. Howard H. Barlow and the late Dr. Barlow. Tne couple will be married in late July and will make their home in Salem. . ; Miss Laughlin is a grad te of Willamette University and is a member of Pi' Beta Phi. She later took graduate work at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. Mr. Barlow is a graduate of the University of Oregon and is a member of Beta Theta PL He is a second year law student at Willamette University School of Musicians to Take Part in Festival - f On Saturday, June 4. 121 stu dent musicians from the Salem area and from ML Angel will participate in the regional Mu sic Festival under, the sponsor ship of the Federated Music Clubs. 'This is the second annual regional festival to be held in . Salem and Mrs. Harvey Gibbens is chairman. At 9 a.m. the Sacred Heart Academy Choir, which is, the first Federated Youth Choir in the state of Oregon, will be heard Following the choir will be the violin and cello groups. These events will be judged by John O'Connor of Oregon State College at the Sacred Heart Academy, with Sister Regina Mary and Mrs. Carlisle Roberts In charge. Also on Saturday morning, be? Snning at 8:30, the piano divis ns will be heard at Willamette Music Hall with Theodore F. Norman as judge. Mr. Norman is from the University of Wash ington. Members of the local organization and parents of stu dents will assist with clerical work. -The interested public is in vited to attend. A small fee is charged which permits attend ance at all events. On Sunday all studentSjeceiv Ing superior ratings in any divis ion will appear in a special reci tal at 2 p.m. at Willamette Music Hall. Featured will be the Youth Choir of Sacred Heart Academy. Features Miss Osborn Married dt Army Chapel The marriage of Miss Beverly Jane Osborn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merl S. Main, and Staff Sergeant-Donald RingwaW, USAF, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ring wald, all of Salem, took place at the Catholic Chapel at McChord Field, Tacoma, on Sunday, May 29. The 12:30 o'clock ceremony was followed by a wedding luncheon at Top of the Ocean, on Puget Sound. For ber wedding the bride chose a beige suit enhanced with gold and 'gold threads, a piak hat and beige accessories. Her flowers were brown orchids. Attending the couple were Mrs. Clarence Politiske and Jerome Sadler, both of Salem. After a wedding trip the couple will reside in Tacoma, where Ser geant Ringwald is stationed at Mc Chord Field. The bride is a graduate of Wil lamette University and a member pf Delta Gamma.' She has been employed at the Salem Public Li brary. Chapter Holds a Model Meeting Gamma Gamma chapter of Ep silon Sigma Alpha held a model meeting in the Coral Room of the Marion Hotel Tuesday night at 8 o'clock. This meeting was the last in a series held to establish a new sister chapter in Albany. -r Miss Barbara Skorney, Portland, state northwest ' district president, spoke on district and state struc ture of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Sev eral members from Beta Epsilon chapter, Portland, were present. Mrs. George Stein was general chairman of the meeting with Mrs Robert Sandstrom, - president of Gamma Gamma, presiding. Dick Lew is was named a Distinguished Military graduate and was pre sented with the award at the military - graduation exercises which took place a Tuesday. An award went to Sandra Schori, who received one of the 77 scholarships awarded, to up perclassmen for the 1955-56 school year. Sally Jo- Greig re ceived a state fee award granted by the University. At the fifth annual banquet of Kappa Rho Omicron (radio hon orary) Jean Smith was given an award for her outstanding con tribution to KWAX, the campus radio station. Bill Cook and Jim Shull' were recently tapped for the honorary. KW AX-TV pro duced its first show on June 2, KThe Valiant," with the audio be ing handled by Jean Smith. Salem Men Elected' Bill Cook was elected treasurer of the Air Command Squadron, the AF-ROTC honorary. A man with another bfg job for next year is Bill Mainwarihg, who is in charge of promotion for the 1956 Religious Evaluation Week. Glenn Benner has just completed a year as 'president of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, men's music hon orary, and as a member tof Roger Middleton s band, which has been very successful. Tom Bright W. Highlighting the week end will be the reunion of five classes as the Class, of 1955 re ceives its diplomas. The classes of 1905. 1910, 1915. 1925 and 1930 will attend the annual Uni versity Alumni Day luncheon on Saturday, June 11, and their separate class dinners that eve ning. Oliver Houston of Salem is handling the arrangements for the reunion of the class of 1910. Mrs. Harry B. Johnson enter tained members of Chapter G, PEO at a dessert luncheon Thurs day afternoon at her Morningside home. This was the last meeting of the season for the chapter.
