Sally Greig Winner of Plaque By MARCIA WEBB , - Statesman Correspondent 1 EUGENE Miss Sally Jo Greig, sophomore majoring in English. " has top billing on the Mortar Board Plaque this year for her accumulative grade point average of 3.71 for her freshman year. Aside from the fact that she had the hishest grades .among- the .women of her class, she was the . Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, and is a member of the rally squad, co editor of the , Emerald women's page, in Kwama (sophomore , women's honorary), working to make Dad's Day successful, and helping with many other campus activities. ' ' 1 Among, the other - Salem stu dents active on campus are' Bill Mainwaring and Ann Ritchey as members of the Emerald staff. Jean Smith spends much of her time working for KWAX, the campus radio station, which is . almost entirely run by the stu dents. The University has a 11 per cent increase in enrollment over that at th end of the first week of win ter term a year ago. Though 636 students dropped" out after fall term, there are 4066 currently en rolled. The third annual Panhellenic pledge banquet was held Wednes day in the Student Union. All sor ority pledges were urged .to at tend such as Julie Astrup, Pat Gordon, Nancy Hilton, Sharon Johnson, Nancy Lidbeck, Judy Loucks, Lauranne Ray and Diane Van Horn. . Many fraternities and sororities held initiation last weekend. Their four children: a sen and three daugh ters, are arranging a reception at the family home on South .Mon mouth avenue in their honor Sun day afternoon. Ann Abel, who Is 72, was born at Richhill. Mo., April 15. 18882. Hulet Williamson, , 73, was born Feb. 17, 1883. near LaFollette, Tenn. She taught school for several years prior to her marriage. For five years they farmed in Mis souri, then moved to Essex, Mon tana, operating a restaurant for 3 years. From 1916 to 1930, he was in the mechanical department of the Great Northern railway, Calis pell division, and their home was in Whitefish, Montana. Mr. Williamson was active in civic affairs, serving as mayor of Whitefish for two years, and two terms also . as city councilman. Following his retirement from the railroad in 1930, they traveled all over the U..S., later settling in Monmouth, as they preferred the mild Willamette Valley climate. Their children are: Mrs. Naomi Stribling and Mrs. Leta Lindner, Portland; Mrs. Ada Braus, Hager stown, Maryland; and Wayne Wil liamson, and engineer with Boe ing Aircraft, Seattle. j The Williamsons were married Jan. 23, 1903 at the home of Judge and Mrs. J. A. Nash at Cheny, Mo. Mrs. Nash, who is Mrs. William son's only sister, now lives at Bakersfield, Calif. j Mrs. Stribling will serve the cake at the reception; Mrs. John Schmidt will preside at the coffee urn, and Mrs. Mary Shannon, Mon mouth, will serve punch.
