Chinchilla Firm Seeks $500,000 In Damage Suit DETROIT, Mich. Uh A $500,000 damage suit by Northwest Chin chilla, Inc., Portland, against the v a - -imv V -oa mmv is biog tried here. The Oregon firm charges that fluorine-treated food pellets from Kellogg kilted 500 of its animals. William R. Cox, former president of the chinchilla concern, testified Tuesday that loss of the animals and harmful effects on rabbits forced his company out of business. However, Kellogg spokesmen said the complaint was the only one they have received and that the pellets still are being sold to other customers. ', : " - . i v v'. Coon (ri-Ore) has asked Congress to authorize a half-million dollar irrigation project near Maupin, Ore. ' To irrigate about 1000 acres on Juniper Flat, it would be known as the WapiniUa Project, Juniper Division, and would include a rock-HQ dam and reservoir on the headwaters of - Clear Creek, a tributary of the White River. Storage capacity of approxi mately 12,000 acre feet would be provided through a reservoir to enlarge Clear Lake- t The project, already recom mended by the Bureau o f Reclamation, would cost an esti mated $518,000 with additional recreational facilities costing an other $34,870. Water users would repay all but the recreational costs over a period of 40 years. Linfield College Designated CD Emergency Point McMTNNVTLLE. Ore. (UP) Linfield College would be immedi ately converted into an admims tration center for the entire 'staff of the Oregon Civil Defense Emer gency Welfare Service in advent of enemy attack in the Northwest, the CD announced Wednesday. Dr. Harry L. Dillin, college president,: said the campus was located outside the probable dam age area. If an attack occurred in Portland, the college would be the focal point for directing wel fare centers to be set up in north western Oregon.
