He just completed advanced work at the University of Washington . . . his wife will be remembered as the former Catherine Sutherland of Portland ... j Eldon Shafer Married in California Of interest to the groom's many Salem friends is the wed ding of Miss Patricia Joan Bow en, daughter of Mrs; J. Annetta Bowen of Long Beach, Calif., to Eldon Vera Shafer; son of Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Vera Shafer of Salem. The ceremony took place on Dec. 28 at the Belmont Heights Methodist I Church in Long Beach. Dr. Charles Mayes officiated at the 8 o'clock rites. For her wedding the bride chose a white lace and net floor length gown with illusion veil caught to a crown of net s She carried a bouquet of white roses, stephanotis and lily-of-tbe-valley. Andrew L. Fletcher gave his niece in marriage. : Miss Sonia A. Shafto was the maid of honor and Miss Diane L. McKinney was the bridesmaid. They wore red velveteen ankle frocks and carried white roses and carnations. John Wade served as best man and ushers were Thomas J. Smith and Gerald Week, si Mrs. Bowen wore a beige lace gown with white carnation . cor sage for her daughter's wedding and the groom's mother chose a black net gown with pink carna tion corsage. A reception followed in the church parlors. Mrs. Ralph Wade of Halsey, Oregon, sister of the bridegroom, cut the cake. After a wedding trip to Lagu na Beach the couple returned to Eugene to reside, where Mr, Shafer is attending the Univer sity of Oregon. For traveling the bride donned a toast colored suit with dark brown accessories.
