Smith.. I The survey was conducted dur ing the month of June as a part ot a state-wide home fire preven tion pVogram. . 1 Figures released by . Smith showed that of 2863 Salem homes inspected, 47.10 percent were found to have complied fully with all standard - precautions. - .The state-wide percentage was', only 33.09. - y Checked during the survey were such items as ashes not in metal containers, rubbish : not properly taken care of, unsafe wiring, flam mable liquids not properly stored, etc. Salem rated better than the state as a whole on all these items, according to Smith.'.
