We, ourselves had been roving about the grounds of the uien-Air country uiud, out not very wiiaiy, and had settled down in their cozy clubroom to hear more about this "Safari" outfit. Captain 'James Wilson, of that organization, was more than willing to tell us. "We'll be leaving for East Africa next month," he enthused, "to shoot telefilm all over Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika and the Belgian Conga" We know that the good Captain, an ex- pert wun dow ana arrow, wouia aiso oe snooting f - big game throughout those curiously named areas of the Dark Continent. "The White Bowhunter 'series, Jim prom ised, "will be authentic from start to finish." "Have you found the girl tfl play 'Leila' yet?" we wanted to know, wishing we were an actress instead of a reporter. "Nope. And the time is getting short." The Captain is quite a humorist. He told us that he'd almost decided on one lovely girl who seemed to have all the requirements jor the role and even liked an outdoor rugged life. "She had no sense of humor," he moaned, "and life can get very dull and downright inconvenient in the veld of Africa, a sense of humor comes in real handy." "Well, Btcana Jim," we kidded, getting kind of gay with the name Wilson will carry through this adventurous teleseries, "It's very exciting to us, but it's probably old stuff to you." He's gone boichuntinp while flying for his Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie and the late King Ibn Saud in Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Trans Jordon, Afghanistan and India. This will be his eighth safari into Afr'ca itself. "Old stuff," he agreed, "But I'm as eager as the kids we'll be entertaining. Every time I start back into the bush, it's like going home." Looks like Jim will pull a lot of kids back from the impossible Outer Space bug that's been gripping them, but the series sounds like a big draw for adults too. Especially those of us who've always been fascinated by titles such as "Gorilla Country" and "Bwana Jim And The Leopard Man." And those adventurous souls chained to their fireside should be happy with shots of the Ikoma tribe and the famous Masai Lion hunters. "We'll get to the tiny Congo Pygmies, too," Jim said, caressing his short-cut impeccably kept beard. This is the first beard we had seen in a good many years, and while it looked most attractive on Captain Jim, we hope he will not be wearing it for the telefilms. Might start a new trend among the college youths and one of our most popular sports shows would lose its sponsor. Back to Bwana Jim and his 40 scripts, with stories such as, "White Tandalla," "Cape Buffalo," and "White Magic" which the Captain still insists are mostly for kids. Maybe it is, but when the expert archer and his crew come slogging back from deepest Africa, we'll be the first to look for "The White Bowhunter" on our set, if we have to don bobby socks and clutch a lollypop to do it. Hollywood CRITICS CORNER: The "Saturday Night Revue" (NBC) came trotting in last weekend with genial host Eddie Al bert astride a show which well might be regarded as a seasonal series of its own rather than the summer replacement for the "Show of Shows." x Eddie, with his pleasant smile and easy-going style, fits the humorous tempo of this new show as smoothly as a two-piece suit on a curvaceous cutie and well wager the show will fast build as strong an eye appeal. It was loaded with class and a huge cast with comedian Pat Carroll in the regular singing spot, with the unique Sauter-Finegan orchestra providing the unusual effects. The wonderful dance teams Peggy Ryan and Ray McDonald; Hoctor and Byrd; and dancers Betty Bruce and Lou Wills Jr., headed the well staged choreography. Our old favorite, Ben Blue, was second in line. Past SO now but as spry as a scared rabbit and at his best in an old-time quartet number which brought out his most nimble gyrations, Ben pro vided the top humor on this week's review. He'll alternate weeks with Alan Young. (Copyright, 154, General feature Corp.) Th Statesman, Salem, Oregon, Monday, June 21, 19547 f TV-Radio Log KPTV Monday HlsUisM: 12 :M .
