Cexomereial MOTOROLA Television Log Transfer of BLM Office to WASHINGTON (A The Gen eral Accounting Office has recom mended that the control office of the Bureau of Land Management be moved from Washington to some Western city. In a report to Congress, GAO suggested that the bureau could be operated more economically if it was located in the West The report did not recommend any city for new headquarters. But a GAO spokesman said that Den vet, Albuquerque. N.M., Billings, Mont, and Salt Lake City, Utah, were among cities suitably locat ed. Orme Lewis, assistant secretary of the interior, said that neither the department nor the bureau had taken any position on the recommendation. No decision will be reached, he said, until Edward Woozley, newly named director of the bureau, takes over his new position and can study the matter. The GXO report also recom mended an adjustment in the pres ent rent formulas for federal land. It said too large a share of the proceeds from land rental and sale of timber now goes to the counties in which the federal property is located. The report did not recommend any specific new formula but said that the federal government s share should be increased to a point where it would cover all ad ministrative costs.
