Walcott. who will be making his second defense of the title he won from Ezzard Charles in July, 1951, is guaranteed 40 per cent of the gate. Marciano will get 20 per cent. Promoter Herman Taylor, who staging the bout in collabora tion with the International Boxing Club of New York, said he ex pects a million-dollar gate includ ing television and other rights. Then will follow two 50-lap events for the divided field. 'After the drivers have battled it out In the twin fifties, the top eight finishers in each event will go into a grand finale of 20 laps for the championship. Goldie Gardner, wheeled his tiny sports car over the Bonneville Salt Flats east of here for two more unofficial national and internation al speed marks Wednesday. The lanky Briton piled up the new speeds hi the Class F division from a flying start -The marks were in the five mile and 1L kilometer divisions. The official marks win be somewhat lower than the high est speeds of 193.38 MPH for the former and 188.49 MPH for the latter, since they are averaged times on two runs for each divi sion. Trumpeter Swan Population Up WASHINGTON CPVThe trump eter swan population of the United States is on the increase, the Fish and Wildlife Service reported Wednesday. It listed 571 of the rare birds in this country now as compared with 535 last year. Back in 1935 there were only 73 trumpeters in the country, giving rise to fears the graceful snow- white creature with the melodious cail was on the way to extinction.
