Sugar Stain Permanent Funny how a simple thing like ugar can cause trouble to the eleaners who ,find many other tains easier to remove. It seems, according to research of the National Cleaning and Dye ing Institute, that common sub stances like fruit juices and arti ficially sweetened foods like soft drinks contain one of several types sugar. These sugars make stains upon contact with fabrics, but the stains are invisible. Upon being subjected to heat, which is neces sary in the cleaning processes these stains however, become vis ible because they cararmehze. The stains are permanent unless on a white material that can be bleach ed. This, say the experts, is the rea son that sometimes a garment re turned from the cleaners shows spots which you never knew were there. And this causes a great many headaches for the cleaners.
