Nelson has announced for his installation sermon, "To Lift Up Christ." Music will be furnish ed by the senior choir and Mrs. Justin Dryud, soloist. A fellowship dinner for members of Immanuel ronsrppstiona will follow, with plans to be made for a public re ception later. The Rev. J. A. Luthro of Trinl- tr Lutheran church will leave Sunday night to attend an evan gelism conference in Minneapolis, Minn., returning on January 24. Former pastor, of the Seventh day Adventist church at Silverton, the Rev. N. C. Erntson of Mil waukie, will be in charge of the morning worship Saturday. At 3:30 Sunday afternoon the local Missionary Volunteer society will Join other churches of the istrict in an associated missionary volun teer meeting in the Salem church. Starting Monday, the Christian tian church will conduct four days of visiting, meeting the closing night at 6 o'clock for a dinner at the church. "The Pharisee and the Publi can at Worship" will be depicted in song and sermon Sunday night at 7:45 at the Christian and Mis sionary Alliance. The Rev. Arvid L. Hokonson announced a busy schedule ior Calvary Lutheran church for the coming week. There will be pray erer meeting at the Axel John son home at 311 S. Water st., Wednesday at p.m.; Bible study at the James Paulson home on route 2, box 113, Wednesday at 8 pjn., and on Friday at 8 p.m. at the church. Milla Peterson, mis sionary to Madagascar, will speak and show pictures of her work. Pacific Lutheran college chorus of Parkland, Wash., will be spon sored in concert at Trinity church, Saturday night. February 24, by Trinity choir. The members will remain the night in Silverton as guests of congregation members. Trinity choir has elected Stella Dybevik, president; Shirley Thompson, vice president;- Mrs. A. J. Menter, secretary; Alden Clemetson. treasurer; and Shel don Knutsen, Darrell Jahn and James Moen, librarians. Mrs. Don Burch is the director and Mrs. ,Alf O. Nelson the accompanist. Strand, president of Oregon State college, speaking briefly at the annual meeting of the Santiam Soil conserva tion district Wednesday night, told of his two months in the Philip pines. He stated that distribution of ownership and control of land were "the most important things in the world." The meeting was held at the Santiam Grange hall between Mehama and Lyons. Chester Loe. fieldman for the First National bank at Salem spoke on the value of conserva tion, recommending especially the use of grass In tha conservation program. There now are 13,000,000 acres in 35 conservation districts in Ore gon, reported Howard Cushman, northweat regional soil conserva tion secretary. Six new districts were added January 1 to the 2fi which had been organized by July, 1949, and additions have been made to nine of the existing dist ricts. Henry Ahrens presided at the business meeting when reports of the local district were given by Harry L. Riches, secretary, and Edward J. BelL treasurer.
