XI Th Statesman Salem Oregon, Saturday. JannarT 1931 Market Lamb Show, Sale Set May 22 at North Portland Site By Lillie L. Madsen Farm Editor. The Statesman Plans were being formulated this week at Portland for the second annual Pacific International Market Lamb show and sale vHth tenta tive date set for May 22 at the Pacific Internationl Livestock Exposi tion building in North Portland. The date is subject to revision on account of seasonal conditions as they affect pastures. The closing date would be on Saturday ahead of the actual show and sale. Judges are to be obtained by the stock yards interests. The event was originated by the Oregon Purebred Sheep Breeders association at its meeting a year go. At the December meeting in 1950, the association voted to spon sor the show and sale again, also at the Pacific International exposi tion grounds in North Portland. The exposition of which Walter Holt is manager, the Portland Un ion Stock yards and the livestock commission firms at North Port land, assisted last year by actively supporting the event. They prom ise the same assistance again for the 1951 show and sale. Exhibitors will be permitted to' make as many entries as they wish, although only two moneys may be won by a single exhibitor in any one class. Entries will be classes in pens of 5, 10 25 and 50 market lambs with a total of $500 in cash premiums. This is the same as last year. In this week's meet ing the association reported it would make additional awards In the amount of $50 to $100 avail able, the exact specifications for winning these awards have not yet been worked out. It was also brought out that the Portland meeting that 4-H and FFA members may assemble lambs to make up entries in any one of the various groups. A club or a chapter may make the entry to work toward the award. In the 1950 show and sale there were 34 entries with the majority coming from the Willamette val ley. Towns represented' from this area were Silverton, Salem, Dal las, Champoeg, Molalla, Mon mouth, McMinnville, Brooks, Jef ferson, Woodburn, Dundee, Shedd and 'ML Angel. At recent sheep WE ARE PROUD meetings here in the valley, num erous sheep breeders who did not show last year, report that they plan to make entries in this year's show. Showing the championship1 pen of lambs, and winning the plaque presented by the sheep breeders association was Harold A. Larsen of Silverton.
