Crop Failure Reports Boost Grain Prices CHICAGO, June 21 -.4- Un favorable crop reports sent wheat into the $2.00 bracket during to day's board of trade session. All deliveries except March traded at $2.00 or better sometime during the -day. Wheat advanced from the open ing bell. .' resuming where it left off yesterday. Most of yesterday's advance was attributed to short covering. The bulk of today's activity was credited to renewed public interest induced by pessi mistic private crop reports. At the finish wheat was 24 to 34 higher, corn was higher to 4 lower, soybeans were un changed to 1V higher and lard was 3 to 10 cents a hundred weight lower. Trade reports that yields in Ok lahoma were averaging around 15 bushels to the acre were aug mented by others that stem rust was hitting the unharvested win ter wheat section. hy ... . ;v I e-- rwJTist jissss., . ats-sJ-j- ..j .fV -ri', .-----T Ifcwi iTr.l. Louver Costs, Faster Finish Are Claimed By Don Din Staff Writer. The Statesman Lower-building costs, faster construction and durability are envisioned for homes, motel or re sort cabins and business buildings when built of solid logs processed in a modern way by Log Struc tures of the Southwest, Inc., whose local offices are being located here at Chemawa corner. Managing the operations is C. W. Williamson, 3 Duncan ave., who came to Salem recently to open a branch and who believes that in a year's time that all business operations will be trans ferred from the company's present offices in Glendale, Calif., to Sa lem. Production of the ipeclally pre pared logi is beinc carried on at mills in Aumsville and Lyons owned and operated by C. W. and S. H. Wright At present 29 carloads of the processed logs have been shipped to nine states and more Inquiries are fsst com ing in, according to Williamson. Secret of the log structures is grooving two sides of, the log and planing throe sides fist, the out side being left natural. Splines are placed in the grooves of top and bottom logs making a aolld, weatherproof fit End connections are made in the same manner, but with metal splines. Special window casings made by the mills allow better fitting in a log wall and also form weather- sealed" closures." After the logs have been peeled, grooved and planed they are dipped in a pre servative which prevents damsge by rot, termites and other insects. Houses or other buildings made of the logs have a rustle look and can be finished inside either in a rustic style or can be plastered, papered or finished in any way conventional houses are, William son stated.
