Portland Grain Stocks React To Day's News NEW YORK, May 7 -JPf- Tor one. day this week the stock mar ket behaved as though it had some relation with the outside world. Prices responded decisively to tht days news. Only 240,000 shares of stock changed hands and prices barely 1 stirred. A week ago turnover was 310.000. Xews that the Berlin blockade would be lifted gave the market its biggest flip forward in the past five weeks on Wednesday. The general level of prices hov ered close to the highest in a cou- ' pie of months. Individual issues ' advanced fractions to a peak of 1 S points or so, with a number at toj, quotations for the year. Saturday's trading resulted in Just about a dead heat. Only 392 individual issues appeared on a slow-moving ticker tape. Of these 179 advanced and 208 declined. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks remained at 63 5, which compared with 63 at the close last Saturday?
