January 3L 1943 Senate Sergeant Signs Up DeMolay Unit Has Election; Rite Saturday WOODBURN Roy Lester Henn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Henn of Woodtjrn route 2 and senior at Woodburn high school, was selected as master councilor of the new chapter of the Order of DeMolay for boys Monday night and will be installed Sat urday night at the local Masonic temple. The charter . class of 37 DeMolay boys was initiated by the Silverton chapter Wednesday night. Institution of the Wood burn chapter will be Saturday night with Edward B. Beaty of Corvallis, deputy of the grand council of DeMolay, present. Lodges Seat New Officers At Stay ton STAYTON New officers of Eva Rebekah lodge 92 and Stayton lodge 64 were seated Thursday evening with Velura Laerman. dis trict deputy president, and Leon Hilton, district deputy grand mas ter, as installing officers, assisted by Beulah Lessard and L. H. Wright, Mrs. Edna Sloper and Tres sa Van Nuys. Shirlee Darby and Barbara Shower lighted the tapers. Rodney Jeleca, retiring noble grand of the Odd Fellows, was giv en a pin by Lindsey Wright Mar garet Schaefer of the Rebekahs E resented Ruth Wood, retiring no le grand, with a set of crystal. New officers of Odd Fellows are Carl Shower, noble grand; B. A. Schaefer, treasurer: Curtis Deetz, vice grand, and A. L. Ware, secre tary. Velma Limbeck, was installed noble grand of the Rebekahs; Lu cille Carter, vice grand; Gertrude Sheffer, treasurer; Marcille Ware, secretary. A trio of Barbara Shower, Len re Crabtree and Ora Bohme gave two selections with Marie Cole as accompanist. A plaque presented Ruth Wood by her 1048 officers was designed by few of the officers with the assistance of Harry Rowe who made it Another surprise to Mrs. Wood was a friendship, love and truth degree dedicated to her and ori ginated by, Velura Uennan, who was the narrator. Marie Cole sang -I Would Be True," Nettie Freele and Estelle Spiva read the Bible scriptures. A tableau included Shirlee Darby and Bernice Fair. Felix Wright of Silverton sang "Rock of Ages." Refreshments were served. The Odd Fellows were hosts with D. George Cole as chairman. Tressa Van Nuys and other Rebekahs dec orated. Officers and committee members made their reports of the year's activities at. the last regular meet ing of Eva Rebekah lodge 92. The Rebekah degree was con ferred on Ed Hobson, after which 16 ladies in pastel formats put on a drill. Ruth Wood gave a farewell address to the lodge as noble grand. 6 Firemen Added; Old-Tiniers Leave Silverton Force SILVERTON, Jan. 19 Six new firemen were announced Wednes day as members of the Silverton volunteer fire department two of the older members retired and were elected to honorary member ship. New members are Clarence Greenfield. Melvin Zahler, Ken neth Henjum, William Starkey, Eugene Smith and Earl Hartman, jr. Retiring are Earl Hartman. siu. and L. F. Tucker, both of whom have been members for 25 years and have served as fire chiefs. The department now has 23 ac tive members. At the annual meet ing C. A.
