SOCIETY- CLUBS-MUSIC I Miss Davis, Mr. Mann Betrothed One of the first engagements to be made known during the holi day season is the betrothal of Mi.s Mary Carolyn Davis, only daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey F. Da vis, to Norman E. Mann, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Mann of Walla Walla. Wash., formerly of Salem. No date has been set for the wed ding. The news was first revealed Monday night at a party for which the bride-elect was hostess at the Lansing av.enue of her home for 24 of the college set home for the holidays. The guests learned the news when Christmas greeting cards were delivered. On the cards were poems with the engaged duo's names, "Carolyn and Bud," print ed below. After an informal evening a late buffet supper was served by the hostess, assisted by her mother and aunts, Mrs. John P. Seitz and Mrs. Mildred Gwin. Red carnations formed the table centerpiece. Miss Davis and her - fiance are graduates of Salem high school. The bride-to-be attended Oregon State college for two years and is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sor ority. She is now employed at the state property control division. Mr. Mann served with the army engi neers in Europe for two years and is now taking his junior year in electrical engineering at Oregon 'State college. David Chambers' Birthday Party David Chambers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Chambers, will be j nonored on his sixth birthday Wed- ! need ay afternoon when his great aunt. Miss Dorathea Steusloff, en tertains. David and "his guests will enjoy a trip to he country to get a Christmas tree, which they will bring back to the home of Miss Steusloff to decorate. Movies and a peanut hunt with birthday cake and refreshments will follow. Honoring David will be Eileen Hadley, Ann Louise Chambers, Steven Chambers. Jeanne ;ai Connell Dyer, Shannon Dyer, Reid English and Frances Sullivan. Past Presidents of Capital Unit No. 9, American Legion will be entertained at a Christmas party and dessert supper Thursday night at the North Capitol street home f Mrs. Albert Gragg at 7:30 o' clock. An exchange of gifts will be a feature of the party. 3m In h $r&& u . v ll I y 1 '1. t 9 Social Slate Filled With Parties The Christmas week is filled with a variety of social events with at homes, dinners, luncheons and club parties on the agenda. At Homes Slated Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Loder will entertain a few of their old friends at an informal at home Wednesday night at their South High street residence with guests invited to call between 6 and 8 o'clock. Hosts for an informal Christmas eve at home will be Mr. and Mrs. John H. Johnson, who will enter tain at their South 23rd street home for twenty of their friends. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer O. Berg will be hosts for a holiday dinner party Thursday night at their Center street home. Covers will be placed for Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Paulson, Mr. and Mrs- L. V. Benson and the Bergs. Dr. and Mrs. Merle Brown will entertain with a holiday open house tonight at their Norway street residence between 8 and 11 o'clock in honor of the nursing staff of the Salem General hospi tal. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Lewis were hosts for their annual at home at their North 16th street residence Friday night. Eighty of their fri ends called during the evening. Mrs. Paul Durkee of Eugene as sisted her daughter informally. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Woodry en tertained members of his band, more after New Year's. their wives and guests at a buffet dinner and party Sunday night at the Glenwood ballroom. Fifty at tended the affair. Club Groups Feted Mr- and Mrs. James Clark were hosts for a Christmas party Mon day night at their Saginaw street home for members of her bridge club and their husbands. A late buffet supper was served by the hostess. Attending the party were Mr. and Mrs. George Todd, Mr. and Mrs. George Birrell, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ladd, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eyre, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stewart, Mr. and Mrs- John Hann and the hosts. Mrs. Robert Needham.will pre side at a bridge luncheon and Christmas party this afternoon at her North 21st street home for the pleasure of her club. Mrs. Harrison W. Elgin, jr. will entertain her club at a dessert sup per and bridge party tonight at her Kingwood Heights home. An ex change of gifts will be a feature of the evening. Mrs. Glenn Wilbur has invited her club to a Christmas party to night at her Salem Heights home. Bridge will be in play with a late supper following. Midshipman Paul Hale, Jr., and his sisters, the Misses Patricia and Doris Hale, children of the Paul Hales of Salem, will spend the Christmas holidays in Wheeling, West Virginia, with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Duval. Paul is attending the U.S. Naval Academy and his sisters have been enrolled at Maryland College for Women. They will return to Balti- Hostesses to Give Holiday At Home Invitations were in the mail Monday to a holiday at home for which the Misses Crystal Hunting ton, Irene McLeod and Josephine Caughell will be hostesses on Thursday afternoon at the Wallace Road home of the former's parents, the Hollis Huntingtons. The three University of Oregon coeds are home for the Christmas vacation and are pledges of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Seventy-live' of the college and high school set have been invited to call between 3 and 3 o'clock. The hostesses will receive infor mally in the living room. The hol iday motif will be carried out in the decorations. Presiding at the tea urns will be Miss Jean Claire Swift and Miss Nancy Snyder. Serving will be Miss Jean Pickens and Miss Beulah Arnold and assisting about the rooms will be Miss Jane Car son, Miss Janet Lindley and Miss Ruth Holtzman. Miss Patricia Devers of Port land, an Oregon classmate and sorority sister of the hostesses, will be down for the occasion and will be the house guest of Miss Mc Leod. Mothers elub of St. Vincent De Paul will meet at 1:30 in the school library Tuesday. The chil dren will present a nativity play at 2:30. All mothers are invited. Tn Slat man. Salons, Oregon, Tuesday.
