Meat Plant Takes Shape r mi A r r Within one month of completion is reconstruction of this Salem Meat company plant at 25th and Mission streets, owned by G. C. Pomeroy of Salem. Work has been held up by weather, bat Pomeroy hopes to begin slaughtering and processing- operations during January. New equipment has already arrived, including- a new compressor. The old plant, at that time owned by Ernest M. Crystal, was laregly destroyed by fire on the morning- of September 10. (Photo by Don Dill, Statesman staff photographer). Silverton James Rinehart Met xler, seamon apprentice, USN, son of Rinehart Metzler of star route, Silverton, is serving aboard the light cruiser USS Pasadena, unit of Task Force 38, now undergoing at Intensive training in Western Pa cific and China sea area. Lebanon Valentine Gordon Benz, electronic technician, second class, USN, son of Mrs. L. W. Bey er of 521 West Sherman St., Leb anon, has completed instruction at the electronics school, on Treasure Island, San Francisco- Benz entered the naval service Aug. 28, 1947, and received his recruit training at San Diego. Turner Arnold William Karlin, fireman, USN, son of Mrs. Helen Karlin of route 1, Turner, is serv ing aboard the light cruiser USS Pasadena, a unit of Aask Force 38, which is undergoing an intensive training period in the Western Pa cific and the China sea area. Dallas Lorin Hildreth Atkins, Journalist, third class, USN, son of Mrs. Violet Mae Atkins of Dallas, is with Task Force 38, now under going intensive training in Western racixic and trie China sea area. Popcorn Mr. and Mrs. Armon McDowell have moved from West Salem to their new residence in this community. Orchard Heights Mountain View school Christmas program will be held Wednesday, Decem ber 22 at 8 pan. Macleay School Christmas program will be presented by ; Macleay school, Tuesday, Decern- ber 21 at 8 pjn. at the school house. Four Corners Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Friesen and daughter, Marsha, have moved to the Joe Hershfelt residence, 80 South El ma eve. They came here recently from Port Townsend, Wash. Popcorn School Christmas pro gram will be held Thursday, De cember 23 at 8 p.m. Santa Claus is to be present to distribute treats. Four Corners House guest of the A. . LaBranches, is her moth er, Mrs. W. A. King. Four Corners . Shirley Lukins, 115 N. Lancaster, drive, is home for the holiday vacation from the University of Oregon. Central Howell- Mr. and Mrs. Earl Schar are parents of a son, Jason Blair, born December 18 at Salem General hospital. Grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Schar and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Simmons, sr., all of this commun ity. Silverton Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kaser of Hermiston are at her fa ther, Fred Knight's for the win ter, and plan a trip to Los Angeles in January. Kaser managed a large hopyard of which he is part owner, in the Hermiston region. Jefferson Grade and high school pupils will unite for a Christmas program at the school gym Thursday, December 23, at & p.m. The program will be short and consist of musical numbers. ANGEL, Dec. 20 Funeral services for Peter Flechinger, 95, who died Sunday at Providence hospital in Portland, will be held at 8:15 Wednesday morning from St. Mary's church with burial in Calvary cemetery. He came to this country when 18 years old from Germany where he was born Oct. 22, 1853. He lo cated first In Wisconsin and home steaded later near Peola, Wash. He was married in Wisconsin to Katherine Quick who died in 1934. The family came to Mt Angel in 1908 and have lived here since then. Survivors are seven children, 32 grandchildren and 16 great grand children. They are Sister Mary Hilda, Convent Queen of Angels, Mrs. Teresa Wolf, Mt. Angel; Henry of Genese, Ida.; George and Joseph, both of Clarkston, Wash.; Frank, Hubbard, and Mrs. Marie Antoine, of Mt Angel; two brothers, Michael, of Pomeroy, Wash, and Hubert, of Lewiston, Ida. Wilton Lafayette Harrison WOODBURN, Dec. 20 Funeral services for Wilton Lafayette Har rison, 74, route 2, Wood burn, who died in an Oregon City hospital Mqnday, will be held Wednesday, December 22, from Ringo's Funeral chapel at 2 p.m. Burial in Belle Passi cemetery. He had lived on Elliott Prairie for the last 13 years, coming from Minnesota where he was born at Chatfield, Jan. 1, 1874. Survivors are the widow, May A. Harrison, two sons, Merton H. Harrison, and Ealph W. and a daughter. Hazel May Tsylor, all of Woodburn; route 2. a brother, Reuben A. Harrison of Chatfield, Minn, and four grandchildren. The city council voted to allow beer to be served in the card and pool rooms if according to state laws. Pool rooms may be open from noon on Sundays, but card tables are closed to playing all day Sundays. Gilbert Hoevet, firechlefs re quest to remove the partition in the fire building on Main street, making it easier to get the fire truck in and out of the building, and for a "no parking" zone In front of the building, were granted.
