Angus! 27, IW New Officers Are Named SO CI ETYf C LU B S AAU S I C BetrotKal of Barbara King Of interest to memben of the college set I announcement of the engagement of Miss Barbara King to Donald Crouch, which was revealed to a croup of the bride-elect's friends ' Thursday night at a party for which Miss Joanne Adolph was hostess at her North 23 rd street home. Miss King is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney A. King of Portland, formerly of Salem, and her fiance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Crouch of Portland. The attractive bride-elect will be a sophomore this year at the Uni versity of Oregon and is a mem ber of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Her freshman year on the cam pus she was chosen the Sigma Chi Sweetheart. She is a graduate of Salem high school. Mr. Crouch will be a senior this year at the University of Oregon and his fraternity is Phi Delta Theta. No plans have been made for the wedding. The surprise betrothal party war a 7:30 o'clock dessert supper and guests learned the news when thej found the names of the en gaged duo on the cake topped with wedding bells and the e 'gagement ring. The table center piece was of deep purple glad ioluses. Attending the announcement party were Miss King and her mother, Mrs. Sidney King, Mrs. Harvey A. Loveall, Jr.. Mrs. Keith Morris, Miss Joanne Blaxail, Miss Patti Ray, Miss Charlotte Alex srder. Miss Luella Campbell, Miss Barbara Hendrickson, Miss Wan da Hathaway, Miss Patricia Wil son, Miss Patricia Burrell, Miss Joyce Smith, Miss Marilyn Hill, Miss Virginia Huston and Miss Jeanne Adclphv Miss Tucker Married The wedding of Miss Marjorie j Ellen Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tucker, and Vernon Lee Elliott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Elliott of Shedd, took place on August 21 at the Salva tion Army Citadel with Adjutant R. B. Lesher officiating at the 8 o'clock nuptials. Verne Esch was -the soloist and Miss GlennU Allen the accompanist Lighting the tapers were Miss June Haugen and Miss Georgia Greene. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white slipper satin gown fashioned on tradi tional lines with sweetheart neck line and full train. Her lace edged fingertip veil was caught to a crown of seed pearls and orange blossoms. She carried a white Bible marked with a purple or chid. Miss Eilene Tucker was her sis ter's maid of honor and wore an off-shoulder gown of yellow net Miss Irma BrlseboU was the bridesmaid and wore sea green net. They wore halos of pastel flowers and carried bouquets of gladioluses. Toye Fae Morrow in a floor length yellow frock was flower girl for her aunt and Michael Morrow, a nephew of the bride, was ring bearer. Derald W. Elliott staid with his brother as best man and ushers were. Vernie Elder, Bill Duncan and Howard Schuman. For ehr daughter's wedding Mrs. Tucker wore a Wue suit with black accessories and Mrs. Elli ott's ensemble was of black with white accessories. Their corsages wer gardenias. A reception followed at the Citadel with Mrs. C L. Sprung man, grandmother ef th bride, cutting the cake. Pouring were Mrs. Ben Valdez. Mrs. R- B. Lesher, Mrs. W. S. Lewis. Miss Nancy Elliott Miss Florence Schlasser and Miss Nancy Clen denin. The couple . will spend their honeymoon along the Oregon, coast and for going away the bride wore black and white two piece dress with matching accessories. Mr. Elliott is stationed in the, navy and while h is on duty his bride will remain in Salem. Shower Given for Mrs. Noble Zena A misceuanous shower was given complimenting Mrs. John Noble and daughter, Cheryl Ann, at the Philip .Brandt horn at Zena Tuesday. Miss Meyer A Bride At an 8 o'clock ceremony Mon day night at Jason Lee church Miss Madonna Meyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Meyer, became the bride of James Phil lip Halt The Rev. Gardner per formed the rites and Edwin Lace played the wedding music for the candlelight service. Mr. Meyer gave, his daughter in marriage and she wore a white satin gown made with a train, long sleeves and sweetheart neck line. A coronet of bouvardia held in place her fingertip length veil and she carried a bouquet of pink and white asters and sweet peas. Miss Vivian Allison was the maid of honor and wore a white taffeta gown and carried a bou quet of gardenias and sweet peas. Joseph Meyer was best man for Mr. HalL Mrs. Meyer attended her daugh ter's wedding in a grey suit with black accessories and a corsage of gladioluses. A reception followed the rites at the Meyer home. Miss Ora Mae Kooke assisted informally. The newlyweds are now at home at 2598 Brooks street and later in the fall will go south on their honeymoon. The bride at tended the University of Oregon and Is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Her husband is with the Salem fire department Ostrin-Wimer Rites Read At a quiet ceremony on August 20 Mrs. Effie Parks Wimer be came the bride of Gustav A. Os trin with the Rev. P. W. Erick sen officiating- at the 7 o'clock rites at the home of the bride on North 18th street in the presence of members of the two families. A reception followed the nup tials at the home of the groom. After a short wedding trip the couple will be at home in Salem at 1S3S State street Club Women To Meet in North Bend Club women from all over the state will gather In North Bend next week for the biennial con vention of the Oregon Federation of Women's clubs. Sessions open September 1 and will end, Sep tember 3. Three hundred women are expected to attend and Mrs. William B. Chandlee, Hilhsboro, president of the Oregon Federa tion, will . preside. Hostess group this year is the North Bend Jun ior Women's club with the North Bend Women's club and Coos Bay Civic club assisting. Attending the convention from Salem will be four state chair men, Mrs. George Rossman, fine arts chairman; Mrs. George Ail ing, literature chairman; Mrs. Charles A. Ratcliff, international relations; and Miss Eleanor Ste phens, -library service. Also go ing from here will be Mrs. Guy Hickok, president of the Salem Woman's club, and two delegates, Mrs. Frank Marshall and Mrs. R. B. Lesher. Representing the Sa lem Junior Woman's club win be Mrs. Fred Cast and Mrs. Sam Campbell. Due to illness the president Mrs. Cedric Reaney, will be unable to attend. Business sessions are scheduled for both Thursday and Friday, with election of officers due Friday. . One of the principal speakers for the biennial .session will be Senator Wayne II Morse, who will talk Thursday at the junior night program.! Harold Olson, North Bend attorney, will speak at the junior luncheon Thursday on "Young Women of Today." One of the special attractions being arranged by the North Bend clubwomen for the pleas ure of their guests is a "crab feed" for which Mrs. Virgil Klockars is chairman. Other en tertainment will include plane flights over the bay area, beach trips and a visit to a myrtle wood factory. Mr. and Mrs. Pa ml Armstrong and daughter, Janne Gay, for merly of Portland, have moved in their new home in Salem. Mr. Armstrong is of the Paul Arm strong School of Dancing. Mrs. Gordon O. Leonard was elected, president of the Sojourn ers for the ensuing year at the dessert luncheon and bridjre meet ing of the group on Thursday af ternoon at the- Salem Woman's clubhouse. Welden (Maxine Rogers) on August 23. The baby's grandparents are Mrs. J. A.Mc Kinney, formerly of Salem and presently living in Jerome, Idaho and Dr. and Mcs. E. A. Welden of Lewistown. Montana. The lit tle boy has an older sister, Deena Ann, who is nearly three. Cap tain Welden is stationed at the Johnson air base at Tokyo and is a member of the regular army. He went to Japan two years ago and was joined by his family last September. They plan to return to the states next spring.
