Rehearsals for Band Are Set Salem senior high school band, which will play at two Cherry land festival parades next week, witi rehearse tonight and next Tuesday night, according to Vernon Wis carson, director. The- band win practice in the high chool music room beginning at 7:30 pjn. It is slated to perform in the regular Cherryland parade on the second day, of the festival; Friday. July 16. and again the following .day for the children's parade. In addition to regular band members, any student musicians who intend to attend the high school this fall also are eligible to play, wiscarson said. Road Project Contracts Let The state highwayT commission has - awarded to the Del R. Bee be Construction company, Eu gene, contract for 1.51 miles of grading and paving on the Pacific highway in Eugene on a low bid of $378,025.25. Another contract was awarded to J. N.and.M. J. Conley, Port land, covering 2.24 miles of grad ing,, surfacing and oiling on the Agate Beach-Newport section of the Oregon coast highway. The low bid was $324,007.50. Bids for "these projects were re ceived by the commission at a meeting in Portland earlier this week. Monmouth Family Completes Midwest Vacation Journey MONMOUTH Mr, and Mrs. H. W. Buss, accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Pearl Buss, and their children, Larry and Jeanie Jo, have returned from -a five weeks trip to their old home in Minne sota. They went via Yellowstone park and the Black Hills of South Dakota into Illinois to visit rela tives, then Ao Morris and Park Rapids, Minn. They found the state needing rain which came before they left, and crop prospects were much improved. Corn Is expected to yield well. The Buss, family came to Mon mouth in 1935. Mrs. H. W. Buss has made two previous trips back to the home state, but this was the first one for him. They are both contented to make their permanent home in Oregon. On the return they drove' through the major northwest flood areas to observe damages.
