Services for Henry Poisel Held Thursday Funeral services for Henry S. Poisel, 01, former teacher and grocer who died at his home. 1890 Market St., Wednesday, were held from the Clough-Barrick chapel on Thursday afternoon. Poisel was bora in Virginia Jan. 23, 1857, and moved to Iowa with his parents when a youth. He was married to Alice Shaw, who sur vives, in Clarksville, la., in 1887. A short time later he and Mrs. Poisel took teaching positions at the Boys' Industrial school in El dora, la., where he was in charge of shop training. After 12 years in El dors, the couple moved to Oregon where they began teaching at the Oregon Boys' Industrial school in Salem in 1900. They remained at the school for four years and took over a 20-acre prune ranch in the Rosedale community. A year and a half later they moved to Salem and built a house on South Commercial street where they lived for 47 years. For many years Poisel and his brother-in-law, George Shaw, operated a grocery store on South Commer cial and Miller streets. Poisel was the first president of the Salem Board of Trade, later to become the chamber of com merce, and was a member of the First Congregational church and the Odd Fellows lodge.
