Postponed from its orig inally scheduled date in June be cause of bad weather, tomorrow right's tilt likely will be the only exhibition shuffle between the two outfits this season. Usually a return game is played in Port land. Manager Jack Wilson of the Senators has named his ace lefty, Wandell Mossor, to face the par ent Portlands, but since the team is currently in the throes of a jlump in WIL play Wilson may save the southpaw for league duties and pitch someone else gainst the Bevos. Manager Jim Turner hinvelf likely will do the burling for the Coast leaguers. The advance sale of tickets for the game indicates a crowd of between 4000 and 5000. Senators Split Twin Bill With Vies; &ock Wopls, Warners in Softy Finals Payoff Clasli Today at Two Campbell's Rock Woolers and the Warner Motors teams will battle it off today at two o'clock at Leslie field for the Salem city Softball championship. The Camp bells last night blanked the Eagles 6-0 in their playoff en counter and the Warners went 10 innings to tip Mootry Pharmacy 2-1 to gain the finals. Today's champion will on Monday night open the district series at Mc Minnville for the right to enter the state tournament at Corvallis. Bob Knight pitched 2-hit shut out ball for the Wools and was backed up by a five-hit assault against "Wimpy" Carver. It was Carver's first loss of the season and his mates booted seven times behind him. Jim Rawlins and Percy Crofoot locked horns in. the second game, Crofoot coming up with the duke in the tenth when John Gof frier gained life on an error, moved up on a passed ball and wild pitch and scored on -Squeek" Nelson's line single to center. Solons Cling To 3rd Place VICTORIA, Aug. l.-( Special -The Salem Senators smacked down Victoria 9 to 5 in the first game of their Western Interna tional league doubleheader here today and had a 6-2 lead in the second clash in the seventh inj ning. But the heavily talented Athletics boomed across six runs with a rally to win the nightcap finally, 8-6. The series ended 3-1 for Victoria, now only a game be hind the third place Senators in the torrid league race. Kenny Wyatt, dsepite but two days rest, hurled the 9-5 win for Salem and was backed up by Bill Beard's perfect 5 - for - 5 hitting. Beard and Eddie Barr smashed home runs and Wyatt fanned 10. Hunk Anderson, who pitched Fri day night, tried it again tonight at his own asking as a measure of giving rest to the balance of Sa lem's depleted pitching corps, but weakened in the seventh and was knocked out. Bus Sporer finished up and suffered the loss via two Vic runs in the eighth. Barr clouted a four-run homer in the seventh to put Salem ahead 6-2, the blow coming off Bob Jen sen, Victoria fastballer . . . The victory was Wyatt's 15th of the season . . . Ore. but Palmer Molds Portland Lead; Yanks, Bums Win, Up Margins Congdon Second; Hogan Far Back PORTLAND, Ore.. Aug. 16.-UP) -Little Johnny Palmer came mar ching home again today in one of the finest continuous golfing splurges in many a tournament to retain his lead in the Portland open, a $10,000 links test. He post ed a 68 in his third round to rack up a total of 204 for the 54 holes of the 72-hole event. Many an expert thought the vir tual newcomer to top tournament competition - - he got into the swing only in early 1946 - - would crack or at least falter in the Vital third round. Instead, he posted his third successive sub-par effort. The Badin, N. C, pro started the tournament with a 66 to take the front position and maintained it through the halfway station yes terday with a 70. His 204 was two strokes ahead of his nearest rival, lanky Charles Congdon of Taeoma, Wash., who incidentally put together the best round of the day - - a 66 - - for a 206. Beavers Win, Take Over 3rd PORTLAND, Aug. 16.-fP)-The still roaring Portland Beavers to night downed San Diego 4-2 on Roy Helser's pitching to take over undisputed third place in the Coast league pennant race.
