February 11. 1947 Volunteers to Be Organized SWEGLE Plans were made Tuesday for organization of vol unteer iwiiUnti on the five east Salom districts to help the pub lic haalth nurses of Marion coun ty The PTA of this district has listed the health program for ome time, and started organizing the central east Salem service months ago. Following the Tuesday meeting, at which Mrs. Bern ice Yery and Betty Schlopkohl represented the health department, it was an nounced that clinics will be held twin a year, April 3 and Novem ber 15. this year. Children of five and younger will be examined, with children to enter school in the fall taking summer check up examinations at the health de partment in Salem at one of the weekly clinics. The volunteers will attend 1o non - medical details including keeping record.", making appoint ments arranging transportation and assisting at the clinics. The volunteers will be headed in dis tricts by Mrs. Stadley, chairman, with four helpers from each dis trict. -One hour will be devoted at each district beginning a follow-: Swegle, 9 a m ; fr'ruitland 10 m ; Middle Grove. 11 am; Rickey. 1. and Auburn. 2:30. Talks About Landscaping FOUR CORNERS Mrs. L. J. Stewart was hostess to the Four Corners Home Extension unit Tuesday. Several new members were taken in. A talk on Land scaping was given by Paul Ras I mussen. assistant County Agent. A short business meeting was called by Mrs. Ernest Walker Present were; Mesdames Cecil Snook, C. C. Morris, R. I. Ham mond. A. R. McLain, Henry Han son, Lawrence Lee. W. E. Peter son, Charles Warren, Gerald Wing. H. W. Snook, H. J. Colgan, E. C. Sunderlin, W. R. Cutwright. E. A. Snook, Ernest Walker. Ralph Mercer, Harold McMillan, A. A. Hager. S. H. Cable. Ross Chrisman. Ray Osborn, W. C. Miller. L. J. Shrake. Nettie Shrake, Hardie Phillips. Dale Jeffries, Ralph King. William Brown, and L. J. Stewart. demonstration agent, spoke on "Developing good taste". Mrs. T. Muller, vice president, conducted the meeting in the ab sence of the president. The Una King, Mrs. Clarence Riddell and Mrs. Keith Peterson are new members. Next meeting will be a 1 o'clock luncheon Thursday, February 27 at Mrs. Edward Harnsbergers. Amputees Needing One Shoe Aided by Sale Amputees needing but one shoe may purchase it at a low rate, according to information received by the Marion county service of ficer from the Disabled War Vet erans group. Single shoes will be available in a variety of styles and in all sizes at $1 each through an arrangement made with the Members Inducted Into Lions Club SILVERTON, Feb. 20 Mitchel Cain provided entertainment with his tricks before the Silverton Lions club Wednesday night at its regular meeting at Buds and Frank's restaurant. Cain will ap pear later in a benefit arranged for the club scouts. Cliff Almquist, chairman of membership, conducted induction of the three new members. Larry Carpenter, Frank Velasic and Morris Schnorenberg. Other members to be inducted next w(k are Bud Hart. Hal Fisher Flagg warehouse, Nashville, Tenn. Further information may be ob tained from the veteran's affairs office at the state library building. and Lloyd Fry. Ted Hobart spoke on the forth coming Red Cross drive. Hobart fieldman for the Ladd & Bush bank of Salem, is assisting in or ganization of Red Cross drives in rural Marion county in the area covering Silverton, ML Angel and Brooks.
