Campus Casual Grads Return For Homecoming By Jane Walsh UNIVERSITY OF OREGON (Special) Homecoming for 1948 is- over at- the University of Ore gon. Many Salem people enjoyed the weekend's activities which in cluded the noise parade,- bonfire and rally Friday night, the Wash ington state football game and dance at Mac court Saturday and other special events planned for the alumni. At the game seated in Presi dent Harry K. Newburn's b o x were the following Salem people: Gov. Earl Snell. state budget di rector George Aiken, state treas urer Leslie Scott, state superin tendent of education Rex Putnam, Representative Homer D. Angell and secretary of state Robert S. Farrell, jr. Bob Skopil, formerly of Salem and now living in Eugene, and Nancy Montgomery were seen cheering for the Ducks. Bob and Nancy were in the class of '44 at Salem high and served their stu dent body as yell king and vice president respectively. Oliver Huston, former Oregon track star, was among the alums who marched in the Order of the O, lettermen's club, at the half time of the game. Bob Weber, Viking of 45, and now in the army, returned to the campus to enjoy the activities. Bob attended Oregon last year. Mr. and Mrs. George Hager were here for the gala occasion and to see their daughter, Anita, a pledge of Delta Zeta. Dr. and Mrs. Bur ton Myers visited their twin daughters, Jeanne and Janice, both art majors, and also attended the game. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kirk witnessed the traditional bonfire after the noise parade. Their daughter, Janet is a sophomore and a Delta Delta Delta. This year's homecoming can truly be 'termed successful. The wet weather didn't dampen the spirits of loyal Webfoots. Mrs. S. M. Baum Home Scene of Meeting f Mrs. W. Wells Baum opened her Ben Lomand park home Monday night to members of the Central Willamette Valley Association of Phi Beta Kappa and . guests. Dr. William Moellering, member1 of the Willamette university faculty and Phi Beta Kappa from Stan ford, read a paper on "Modern Trends in Spanish-American Fic tion." Miss Irene Hollenbec-k presided at the business meeting at which Dr. Moellering was elected presi dent and Mrs. C. A. Ratcliff, re elected secretary. Plans were made for the annual observance of the founding of Phi Beta Kappa in 1776 and the celebration will be held in Salem on December 5. Emmons Tuesday afternoon at the Salem General hospital. The baby, who weighed eight pounds and nine ounces, is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrsj Walter D. Pugh and Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Emmons. Karen has four brothers, David, Terrence, Patrick and Michael. Silverton Girl' Weds in North i . SILVERTON-Miss Ardis Aar hus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Aarhus ! of Silverton and Robert W. Miss Helen Hiden played the wedding music and accompanied Miss Mar guerite Hanson who sang. The bride, given in marriage by her father,' 'wore white satin fashioned on princess lines with deep net yoke. The full net skirt over satin was made with a long train. The fingertip veil fell from a Juliet cap. The bride carried white carnations, bouvardia and pink rosebuds. Miss Gladys Burch of Salem, maid of honor,: wore shell pink and carried cream rosebuds and yellow chrysanthemums. . Brides maids were Miss Charlotte John son, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Marjory Hussey, sister of the bridegroom. They carried pink and white carnations. For traveling the bride wore a suit of hunter's green with black accessories and a gar denia corsage. The couple will live at Redondo Beach near Ta coma.
