That is, al though the Yanks are in second place they are not in what might be called a stirring pennant fight, as the Boston Red Sox long since have demonstrated that this is to be theiy year. The club has no outstanding individual attraction, no Bob Fel ler or Ted Williams, although it is admitted these gentlemen have done more than a little bit to boost the attendance on their periodic visits here. It might have been that Joe Di Maggio could have been the lure, as when the Yankee clipper is clip ping he is fan bait of the first order, but Joe has been off form this year and his lure consist chiefly in the fans hope they will be present when he soaps out of it. Everything c o n s I d ered, the Yankee attendance is nothing short of astounding. If the team was the Bronx Bombers of a few years ago, if it had. a Babe Ruth, you could view the booming at tendance with less astonishment, figuring that the great club and the general increase in : sports interest and attendance were re sponsible. What one man can do to send attendance soaring has been dem onstrated, chiefly by Bob Feller. Williams naturally is a great at traction and some day may match Ruth's drawing power.
