A District Meeting The Salem Junior Woman's dub will be host to fhe Third district convention on Sunday, April 14 at the Mayflower Dairy Coop. The guest singer -will be Viv- lehne Meola, who will sing "Oh Love But a Day" by Browning and VDreamy Sevilla" by Logan. She will be accompanied by "Mrs. John Schmidt, jr. The program will be presented by Miss Joy Hills, principal of Leslie Junior high school and will be under the direction of Miss Eleanor Roberts, auditor ium director at Leslie. The program is as follows: Spanish dance in authentic cos tume by Anita Aguilar and Ann Brown; girls sextet, "Cell to Lin do"; violin duets. Spanish gypsy -songs by Carol Koster and Phil Ringle; vocal solo, "Estrellita" by Lila Parmentier; accordion solo by Van Stonehocker; and a play, "Spanish Omlet," starring Sharon Hamilton, Phillip John son, Burney Rogers and Bob Jones. ' Of interest to Salem club wom en is announcement that the "Woman of the Week" sponsored by the Oregon Federation of Women's clubs will be a Salem woman the week of April 19. The announcement will be made over KOAC at 2 o'clock. The program Is sponsored 'each, week nd this will be the first time a Salem woman 4ia been chosen this year. Her selection will be made by a local committee com posed of three community woik ers, one a man. Vows Are Read In Sayton STAYTON The Church of Christ was. the scene of an early spring wedding Wednesday when Miss Verla Carter, daughter of Mrs. Lucile Carter, became the bride of Raymond Frey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Frey. The double ring service was read by Jack Tyrell-Baxter at 8 o'clock before an altar banked with spring flowers, ivy and lighted tapers. Mrs. Wendel Weddel. arcom aniedpy Rose Ward of Salem, sang "Because" and "I Love You Truly." Afler the ceremony. Melvin Epley of Aloha sang "The Lord's Prayer:" The bride, who was given in marriage by her uncle, Vivian Cantrall of Portland, wore a white satin wedding dress with a train and finger-tip. veil. She carried a white Bible with rose bud and gardenia streamers. The bride's only attendant was Miss Marge Wallet) of Salem, who wore a blue net dress and carried a colonial bouquet. JuliaiV-Kimler of Sajem acted as best man. Leonard Titus and Donald Hougardy were ushers. The bridal party received the guests in the foyer of the church and later a reception was held in the church parlors. Serving were Mrs. Belle Heater, Sublim ity. Mrs. Vivian Cantrall, Port land, aunts of the bride; also her sisters. Mrs. Errha Lang. Port land; and Mrs. Iris Van Houte, Coos Bay; and Mrs. Hattie Schlies. Mrs. Frey attended, school here, later going to Portland where she graduated from Em manuel hospital. She was a mem ber of the nurses corps In the nay. Mr. Frey also attended school here and was in the ser vice until his discharge a few months ago. The couple left on a wedding trip and Upon their return will reside in Stayton.
