August 15. 1143 Pre-Induction Meeting Slated The pre-induction meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening fit Salem Chamber of Commerce at 8 o'clock for the men being called . up by the army for their physical examinations will be held in spite of the ending of the war, W. H. BaQlie. pre-induction committee chairman, announced Tuesday night. I ' The purpose of the meeting Is to inform the men and their fam ilies of pertinent facts regarding their induction and the proper le gal papers which should be in or der to facilitate family allotments. Services offered the men and their lights and privileges are explain ed at that time. Jack Elliott on Way to Release From Army Service Lt. Col. John Elliott arrived here Tuesday from Camp Dix, NJ, en route to Fort Lewis, Wash., where ht will be released from military service. He will resume his duties with the state liquor commission, 1 with headquarters in Portland. .Elliott was employed by the li quor control commission for sev eralrears prior to the war. Former Dallas "Woman 'May Return to live DALLAS Mrs. M. C. Syron has arrived from Eureka, Calif., to transact business and visit with relatives and friends. A resident of Dallas for many years, she may return to make her home here as she owns a residence on Jefferson street The late M. C. The Butts family made the trip with their car and trailer house. Lila Day, who is on a vacation from her work at the Crider store in Dallas and is visiting in Seat tie. Mrs. E. H. Cochrane is a pa tient at the Dallas hospital. Her condition is unchanged. Mr. and Mrs. Mueller and chil dren of Cooper Hollow spent Sat urday with Mr. and Mrs. Emmer son Murphy. . Mark Jones of the Bridgeport community is combining for Paul Karlin, Max Fairchild and Robert Carson this week. Logging Accidents -Numerous in Dallas DALLAS Lloyd Dunaway of Falls City was treated at the Dal las hospital for a crushed leg re ceived while working for Pope & Talbot Thursday. Saturday H. C. Bradshaw, also employed by Pope & Talbot, was treated at the Bar- tell' hospital for severe laceration of the head when a dead limb fell and struck mm while railing a tree. He is now at his home in the Imperial apartments. Eric Jaren was treated for a broken toe at the Bartell hospital Wed nesday. Robert Johnson was brought to the Bartell hospital Wednesday with a fractured arm received while fighting fire in the Willam ette valley burn. He was later transferred to the Deaconess hos pital at Salem. John Pike Leaves For Seattle Post Rev. John M. Pike, who was ordained to the ministry at the annual conference of the Evan gelical church at Jennings Lodge, will give his farewell to the Fruitland congregation Sunday morning, August 19. The Rev. Mr. Pike was recent ly graduated from Willamette university and has been Salem director of youth at the First Evangelical church. He and Mrs. Pike will leave soon for Seattle, where he will be the pastor of the Victory Heights Evangelical church and a student at the Uni versity of Washington. . 'f Robert Barry Home u E.
