H-'P)- A j bluish Monday tinge enveloped I the stock market today and lead lets generally' told dowrr-fractiona to two more points in relatively ' slow dealings. I Many customers trimmed ac I counts on the persistent idea a I sudden Japanese surrender would I seriously upset domestic economy, i at least temporarily. Others stood aside to await British election re sults due Thursday and news from the Potsdam parley. Passage by congress of the reconversion tax : relief act was helpful. 'I . i Investment sentiment was buoy td to some extent by the quick ! sale of American Telephone's ! $175,000,000, 2 per cent deben tures at par, one of the largest transactions! on record. AiT. &t T, i common, though, ended off at ,177. Transfers of 750,000 shares com pared with 650,000 Friday. The Associated Press 60-stock i average was off .5 of a point at 64.2. Pacific Mills improved follow ing a lifted dividend but slipped at the last for ?a net drop of IV at 50 ! Prominent in the minus ranks were Santa Fe, Southern Pacific, U. S. Steel, Chrysler, Montgomery Ward,' Texas Co., Kennecott, Goe ing and Dow Chemical. Small gains were retained by. Eastman Kodak, Sears Roebuck and Pa cific Tin. Futu rram res Trading Has Erratic Day CHICAGO, July 23-P-Grain futures trading was a mixed up affair today due to closing out operations in the July deliveries, with today the final day of trad ing in all these contracts. Meanwhile liquidation in July wheat pushed that price down jsia to 3'i cents, and the loss af- fected other wheat deliveries ad versely. There also was some hedge celling of -wheat, although brokers said this was not large considering the heavy southwest ern arrivals, which included 1364 cars at Kansas City, f Deferred deliveries of other grains also were down. - Wheat closed 34 cents lower ;to higher, July S1.63i-$1.624, corn was unchanged to ' off, July $1.18 li, oats were 4 higher to Va lower, July ttK-W, rye jwas up 4:.'t' to down 2 cents, July :$1.594-$1.60,,i. and! barley was inp 4!i $1.22. cents to down '.i, July Hunt Foods (Branches Into New Fields LOS ANGELES, July 23-(Spe-cial) Hunt Foods, 1 Inc. has an nounced the acquisition of stock in the Rocky Mountain " Packing corporation, the largest indepen dent canning concern in Utah, from Harold B.
