March 29-UPVA 'sorted rails, aviation and special ties developed a certain amount of x strength in today's stock market s while many leaders stumbled on ' the slowest dealings in about five months. i Many customers trimmed , ac counts and adjourned for tomor row's holiday when principal ex- cnanges or the United States and Canada will recess. Others stood aside to await war developments. Earnings, dividends and individ ual situations aided favorites. Gainers of fractions to 2 points were in the majority at the close. Transfers totaled 660,000 shares compared with 720,000 - Wednes day and were the smallest for a full session since October 30, last The Associatld Press 60-stock average was up J of a Doint at 89.8. Of 845 issues appearing, 434 advanced against 411 down or unchanged. Wheat Gains, Other Grains Firm, Steady CHICAGO, March 29-fP)-May wheat finished more than a cent higher today and other grain fu tures markets were steady to firm in a quiet trade. Evening operations in prepara tion for the Good Frday recess held most prices to a narrow range and, except for the nearby wheat delivery, quotations were within minor fractions of yesterday's fin ish. A steady demand for May wheat. presumably for milling account, appeared af mid-session, and there was no pressure of offerings. Shorts covered on the way up. Trade reports said the government would be in the market next week for four million sacks of flour. Corn at times was up about half ' a cent but the market was duH. " At the finish wheat was to 14 higher than yesterday's close, May $1.70!-i,i. Corn was up to ., May 1.1Ub. Oats were to higher, May 63. Rye was un changed to up , May $1.16 1.17.
