Scio Schools Open Monday SCIO Fully staffed, the Scio schools win open September 20, a week later than usual, under con ' ditions promising a successful ac ademic year, in the opinion of the local board of education. E.- G. Rickard, who has instructed in high school at Lebanon during the last two years, will be - principal here and will be assisted by three other instructors. The grades also win have four teachers. The school plant has been improved, during .the 1943 intermission in the matter of a heating system, and a new com position roof i s being placed on the gymnasium. Frank Sommer again is custodian of the buildings and . grounds, . having been re elected last spring. Mrs. P. W. Schrunk is board director chairman and K. J. Pur dy and W. H. Dennison. are the other members. Mrs. Frank Bartu Is district clerk, having been ap pointed some months ago to suc ceep Mrs. F. T. Bilyeu, resigned. DeSart Hop Harvest Ends Early Saturday SWEGLE- Hop picking at the PL D. DeSart ranch was finished Saturday, morning and pickers f , paid. off before noon. The owners . report an even better crop than . they had planned on as there was , no. rain while' the crop, was being . picked. . Mr. and Mrs. r DeSart were able to prepare only. 20 acres for picking this fall as they had - very little ; help in training the vines. They have had as much as 45 acres in hops and some of their . fields . are 32 years old. There is a small yard known as " the Swartz ranch, which was not ' taken care of this year, but has " had. hops grown there ' for 42 . years, .'. .. . : C. Fox Valley Families Moving FOX VALLEY The W. B. Wooden family, who sold their farm to W. P. Chamberlain, have moved: to Cottage Grove. The Chamberlains have taken posses sion of I their new place. They maintain a strawberry acreage at their new" place. Mrs. George Clipfell is visiting her son. Perry, who is stationed with the army in Ohio. She plans also to visit relatives in the east before returning home. Many Fox Valley residents at tended the Farmers ' Union fair at Jordan recently. -:-y: .Mr. and Mrs! Alva Wise smoved Friday to their new 'home near Marion. 'The George -Nydeggers are moving to the farm vacated by the Wises. The Nydeggers bought the place last spring. Mr. j and- Mrs. Paul Johnston are making i some improvements to their home, putting on a new porch at the rear of the house. . George Berry and Jack John ston are cutting wood at the W. F.
