Lebanon Man Starts Sweet Potato Plants LEBANON George Roe has set out 700 sweet potato plants on river bottom land east of town. These plants were shipped here from his former home in Texas. Since coming to Oregon Roe has tried growing sweet potatoes but with not very good results. The trouble has been that they did not have time to mature.; The sweet potato is very slow and to get an early enough start to mature the tubers would have to be planted in January, which, of course, is too cold.
