They represent 98 per cent of the bank's staff. The plan of salary adjustments designed to protect the -bank's staff against increased ' living costs was announced in July by EL B. McNaughton, president. Un der the plan salary adjustments are made quarterly based upon telegraphic reports as to living costs received from the United States bureau of labor. The fig ures just released by the bureau for the quarter ending September 15, 1941, indicate that living costs in Oregon have increased 11 per cent over the base figure which the department takes as the ave rage prevailing for the interval from 1935 to 1939. This salary adjustment plan does not supersede nor conflict with the bank's long standing pro gram of periodic salary increases based on seniority and regular promotions.
