IS41 Church, Cantonment Relation Discussed at Monmouth Session ' MONMOUTH The chamber of commerce meeting Thurs day was attended by 20 members. After a dinner at the Mon mouth hotel Rev. W. A. Elkins talked on the relation of the churches to the cantonment, if and when it comes. As a retired army chaplain, Rev. Elkins has some Interesting views on the sit uation. His personal conviction is that the cantonment Is coming. ' Soldier boys suffer, from home sickness, he averred, and the local churches intend to so organize that the boys may be welcomed net only into the church but into the homes. There is a real chance for ministers and churches to be of service to them as well as the service' they receive from army chaplains. Mr. Wright, a representative of the Louise Home in Portland, spoke on the home which was founded more than SO years ago and has handled 1325 cases since then. The home is in need of ex pansion and he desires to in terest a committee of welfare minded folk in each community to assist with this project R. B. David Beck, minister of the local Baptist church, spoke briefly. Mr. and Mrs. LaMer Sayrs, Moro, have been the guests this week at the Carl Stamey home. The drinking fountain at Main and Water street has undergone repairs and a new paint job from inside out. . Mr. and. Mrs. Gilbert Anderson,, Minneapolis, have come west to spend their second , winter in this vicinity.. They are guests for the present at the Hans Gorder home.
